Starbucks oatmeal is one of the best food choices on the menu, but all the toppings they give you can pack a major punch in the sugar and calorie department. Heres what I do: Order my oatmeal plain with a container of fresh blueberries , and then add a packet of stevia and a few shakes of cinnamon from the coffee bar. Pro tip: sometimes I have the barista add a little steamed soy or almond milk to the top of my oatmeal to make it creamier.

Starbucks Copycat Chai Tea Latte

Chai Tea Latte Recipe

I am a HUGE chai tea latte fan! I recently decided to add another entry to my Starbucks Copycat recipe collection which have been our most popular recipes here at Snacks and Sips! So for this recipe, I am taking on Starbucks classic chai tea latte recipe. For my version, you just need 3 simple ingredients and about 10 minutes. This recipe is an alternative way of making a chai latte at home, usually people make them by using chai concentrate and combining that with milk. I like this version better because it allows you to control the sugar and it is WAY cheaper overall than spending $4 on a little jug of chai concentrate that only makes a few drinks.

Latte Used To Be An Exclusively Coffee Kinda Thing But Now Its Diversified

The definition of latte is:

You already know #1, but check out #2 :

2: a similar beverage, made with tea in place of espresso

This is where the term chai latte or chai tea latte comes from . Its basically a very milky, strongly flavoured spiced tea.

Sometimes dictionaries need a little time to catch up with modern phrases and phenomena. If youre into hot drinks youll probably have heard of Matcha Latte , Turmeric Latte even Beetroot Latte! Theyre all made with more milk than water, with a base of tea, coffee, or another ingredient, usually herbs or spices. So a latte isnt just a question of coffee or tea. Basically, its any kind of milky drink.

This follows if you have ever tried a cafe latte the kind of latte people usually assume youre talking about. A cafe latte usually contains a shot of coffee, topped up with steamed frothy milk.

Whether something is a latte or not is a question of ratios. As a rule of thumb if theres more milk than water in your cup, its a latte.

Why Drink Chai Latte

Aside from being something different to coffee that many people enjoy, chai latte is a sweet, warming drink that is sure to keep you feeling warm and cozy in the winter months. Its got less caffeine in it compared to coffee, making it an ideal choice for anybody who is sensitive to caffeine or if you simply want to avoid a huge caffeine boost. Some top reasons to consider drinking chai latte more often include:

1. Choose From Various Tea Options

Black tea is the most traditional choice for making chai latte, but you can make this drink with various other types of tea. Use an herbal tea if you want to make a drink that is completely caffeine-free or opt for green tea if you want a healthier choice. Most of the time, black tea will be the only option if you are ordering chai latte from the menu at coffee shops and chains like Starbucks, but theres nothing stopping you from experimenting if you want to make your own at home.

2. More Environmentally Friendly

Another great reason to consider cutting down on coffee and drinking chai tea and chai lattes instead is that the process in which tea is made is better for the environment. While coffee beans are washed several times during processing, tea leaves are only washed once, making it a great alternative to consider if you are looking for a regular hot drink that does not have as large an environmental impact.

3. Organic and Fair Trade

4. No Specialist Equipment Needed

Does A Chai Latte Have Caffeine

Are you wondering if a chai latte has caffeine? The answer is yes. A chai latte contains a fairly low amount of caffeine as it is made out of black tea. The caffeine content in a chai latte depends on how much is brewed and what kind of tea is used. It is said to range from 12 to 50 mg in a 6-oz cup. This is much less than the same cup of coffee that contains an average of 70 mg. Chai lattes are best for people who have a reasonable tolerance for caffeine and are looking for an alternative to the standard latte. The drink does have caffeine in it, but the spices used to flavour it, such as ginger and cardamom, usually have a natural calming effect on people that causes them to relax. This can mean that a chai latte is more likely to make you sleepy than give you a boost of energy.

What Is A Dirty Chai A Brief Definition

A Dirty Chai is a very popular espresso-based drink.

Nowadays, people serve it in many coffee shops and restaurants. Chances are very high, that you probably already had a taste or sip of it yourself.

Or, you are already a real Chai tea lover anyhow, like me. Hence, it was just a matter of time until we would also very much appreciate the Dirty Chai.

Typically, the Dirty Chai consists of a single shot of espresso. And, it is mixed or even infused into a spiced chai tea.

In terms of tea choice, most of common is to use the traditional Masala Chai from India.

Furthermore, the Dirty Chai is usually made with a chai concentrate or actual tea. Plus, you are adding steamed milk and the single shot of espresso.

The result is a cross between a regular Latte and a Chai Tea Latte.

However, you may be more familiar with the Dirty Chai under a different name. Alternative names are Espresso Chai or Java Chai. Other common names also include Red Eye Chai, Chai Charger or Tough Guy Chai.

Probably, the most well-known synonym is the widely used name of Chai Tea Latte.

Essentially, both names stand for the same type of drink. And, they both also have more or less very similar or even identical recipes.

Nonetheless, some people would argue that the Chai Tea Latte is an individual drink on its own. We respectfully want to honor all opinions and therefore mention it here.

Traditionally, you can either serve a Dirty Chai hot or cold.

Making Chai Latte At Home

If chai latte is one of your favorite drinks, then you might be wondering if you can make your own at home to save money and enjoy this drink whenever you like, and the good news is that you can easily do this. If you want a really convenient option, you can get chai latte powders that can be mixed with hot water to create an instant version of this drink, and you can also get chai latte pods for some pod coffee makers. But if you want to make an authentic cup of Indian Masala Chai, then youll need to gather some spices to make the blend.

You will need:

To make the tea, roll the mint leaves and chop them into fine strips, then finely chop or grate the ginger. Take your cardamom pods and crush them open before grinding the seeds with the cinnamon and cloves to a fine, powdery consistency. Boil the water then add your spice mixture, before allowing it to sit for a minute. Add the tea leaves to the water and spice, and boil for a further minute before adding cold milk and bringing to the boil again. Lower the heat, then turn it up and bring to the boil again three or four times. If you want to make a latte, skip the step where you add the milk to the water, and froth milk using a milk frother or steam wand instead before adding this to the tea mixture. You can also add honey or sugar to sweeten if you wish.

pumpkin spice chai tea latte

Like I said before, this is how my family makes a very simple, easy to source chai.

  • Heat water in a saucepan over high heat and add in sound ground cardamom. If you would like to use other spices, you can also add a crushed cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger and a few peppercorns. Simmer 1 minute on medium heat to infuse all the flavors.
  • Toss in the black tea leaves and make bring it to a boil over medium heat. Do not use high heat to speed it up the longer steep will add more flavor!
  • Add in milk and once it comes to a boil over low-medium heat, use a ladle to stir well. Lower the heat and allow to simmer for another 1-3 minutes, or less/more depending on how strong you want the chai.
  • Raise the heat to high to allow it to come to a boil.
  • Strain the chai into a cup and stir in the sugar. If you want to make it iced, just let it sit out or in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes and add some ice.
