What Is The Best Coffee For Iced Coffee

BEST ICED COFFEE | Easy Iced Coffee Recipe (Dairy Free)

The best iced coffee is made using brewed coffee of your choice. You can use coffee made using the Chemex, Hario V60, or even the French press.

Iced coffee can be made using any of the techniques listed above. Each coffee brewing technique makes for a different flavored iced coffee with unique flavor notes.

For me, using a pour over technique is the way to go. The coffee these coffee brewers produce is very balanced and tastes excellent cooled with a touch of milk added.

If youre going to make iced coffee for the first time, I suggest brewing coffee using your favorite coffee brewer, as you probably already like this coffee.

Ninja Coffee Bar Method

This post has been updated a few times, and after I first wrote it a few years ago, I got a Ninja Coffee Bar. And it’s pretty much my favorite thing ever!

This system has a special function that lets you brew a single cup of coffee directly over ice … without watering it down. It works perfectly every time, takes minutes to make, and I absolutely love it.

I’ve also used my Ninja to make specialty espresso-style drinks like affogato and lattes. The best thing about it though, is that you can make everything from full pots of coffee to single cups … all without wasteful pods!

Stirring sugar, milk, and ice into the cold coffee.

The basic version of this iced coffee recipe has the following:

Instant Coffee

To expand on this for a fall version I made these changes:

  • Swap out the sugar for maple syrup.
  • Add cinnamon!

The combination of maple syrup and cinnamon gives the coffee a beautiful fall flavor that will make your mouth sing with joy!

    Starbucks iced coffee, who?

The hashtag #icedcoffee has over 1.7 billion views on TikTok. And with summer well on its way, more and more of us will be eagerly searching for the best ways to make a glass of the stuff, pronto.

With that in mind, we asked coffee expert and Modern Standard Coffee founder, Lynsey Harley, how to make the best iced coffee, ever!

How Do You Make Iced Coffee?

It’s easy, really. All you need is a tall glass filled with ice, brewed coffee and some vanilla syrup . Mix it all up and there you have it! A decadent glass of homemade, no-fuss iced coffee.

If you really feel like pushing the boat out, you could make it using a shaker. Chuck all your ingredients in and shake, like a cocktail. Think of it like a non-alcoholic espresso martini!

Whats The Difference Between Iced Coffee And Cold Brew?

Iced coffee is, well, icedcoffee. It’s as simple as serving regularly brewed coffee over a glass full of ice. But if you want to get a little more technical, Lynsey says, Iced coffee is made with espresso thats brewed for around 25 seconds.

Cold brew is a little less straightforward and requires a lot more time. Rather than simply serving regularly brewed coffee over ice, cold brew involves leaving course ground coffee steeped in cold water for a minimum of 12 hours.

The longer the coffee sits, the stronger the flavour.

Lynsey describes cold brew, as a concentrate, that you dilute with whatever you want milk, water or tonic.

Is Iced Coffee Just Coffee With Ice

Iced coffee is made from freshly ground coffee that has been completely cooled and served on ice. As a result, its basically cold coffee mixed with a splash of ice for that refreshing touch. Iced coffee contains a lot of milk or half or half of a cup. This is preferable to cold coffee, which contains no milk or half or half of a cup.

Youll need a tall glass and a spoon long enough to reach the bottom of that glass.

Fill that glass full to the rim with ice. If you really want to get serious about your iced coffee, you can make ice cubes out of coffee too. Then you wont get that watered-down effect. And if youre into that flavored sort of coffee then go for it.

Pour room temperature coffee into the glass.

Fill it almost to the top.

Pour in the white stuff. Heres where you get to make a big decision. Do you want to go all out and make this a decadent treat? If so, then add cream or half & half. If you want to go a little lighter, use whole milk or fat-free half & half. And lighter still, use nonfat milk.

Take a moment to watch the swirls sink to the bottom and mix in with the coffee. Its a magical moment. ð

Add a couple spoonfuls of sugar or whatever sort of sweetener you usually add to your coffee. In the recipe notes below, I share how to make sugary simple syrup in case you prefer to use that instead of granulated white sugar.

    Stir it all up!

Add a purple straw. If youre a straw person, that is. And drink up!

    Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Similar to my method, the cold brew coffee maker allows the coffee grounds to sit in the water for an extended period of time until its ready to strain, pour, and fix up into an iced coffee.

To use the cold brew coffee maker:

    • Place coffee grounds inside the mesh sieve of the cold brew coffee maker.
    • Fill with water.
    • Refrigerate based on the makers directions. Typically 24 hours.

    Iced Coffee Vs Cold Brew

The temperature of the water for iced coffee is much colder than that for cold brew coffee, which makes the boiling point of the liquid higher. The boiling point is simply the temperature at which water boils. So boiling point is how hot your drink will get since iced coffee does not get hot like hot coffee.

Cold brewing differs from iced coffee in the preparation of the coffee beans. It is a method of brewing that involves an alkaline brew, typically made with water with a pH level of around 5 or 6. The more alkaline the water, the more time is required for the coffee beans to ferment before brewing. Rooting is the final stage of the brewing process when the coffee is ground and put through a paper filter to extract the more robust flavour.

Cold brew coffee concentrate is made by steeping coffee grounds in cold water for 12 to 24 hours. The result is noticeably less acidic coffee, a smooth, strong cup with natural sweetness.

Can You Put Hot Coffee On Ice

HOW TO MAKE A STARBUCKS ICED COFFEE

Technically, you can simply pour hot coffee over ice. But I wouldn’t recommend it!

The ice will water down your coffee, and it won’t get as cool either … and perfect Iced Coffee needs to be quite cold.

If you’d prefer to make your drink with hot coffee, then I’d recommend using coffee ice cubes instead of regular ones … that way your coffee won’t be diluted and watery tasting. To make coffee ice cubes, simply fill an ice cube tray with leftover coffee, then freeze overnight.

In the morning, stir a few coffee ice cubes into your freshly-brewed coffee. The cubes will cool off your coffee without watering down the flavor like regular ice would. Once your coffee has cooled, stir in sugar and milk to taste, then top off with regular ice or more coffee ice cubes.
