How To Make Iced Coffee With Instant Coffee
Many people avoid making iced coffee at home because they think it requires more work than hot coffee. Whereas they can use instant coffee to make a piping hot cup in just a few seconds, they assume they have to go through additional steps and preparation time to create iced coffee.
This is actually not true. You can use instant coffee mix to make iced coffee too. This recipe is so simple, in fact, that it only takes 2 minutes to make with 4 different ingredients. Check out this recipe if you want to make iced coffee with instant coffee mix. It will probably be a life changer and save you a whole lot of money!
How To Strain Cold Brew
The last step is to strain the mixture to remove the coffee grounds. Place a fine mesh strainer over a large batter bowl, liquid measuring cup or bowl. Its easiest if you strain the coffee into a container that is easy to pour from so that you can then transfer it to a storage container. I strain my coffee into this batter bowl.
To catch the coffee grounds, line the strainer with cheesecloth or place a nut milk bag inside. I prefer to use a nut milk bag because its inexpensive and I can rinse it out and reuse it again and again. If you fold the top of the bag over its easy to get the coffee grounds out and rinse the bag clean.
How To Serve Cold Brew Iced Coffee
This recipe makes a coffee concentrate. Unless you like really strong coffee, you will probably want to dilute it with water when you serve it. I use about a 1:1 ratio of coffee concentrate to water, sometimes a little more coffee since I like my iced coffee strong.
You can serve your cold brew over ice or even heat it up for a hot cup of coffee. The smooth, less bitter flavor of cold brew makes a perfect cup of hot coffee in the morning! The easiest way to heat cold brew is in the microwave.
Serve your cold brew coffee black or with a splash of milk or cream. Sometimes Ill stir in cream, a drizzle of honey and a pinch of sea salt for a sweeter iced coffee. It tastes like an iced salted caramel latte!

Knowing More About Iced Coffee
Coffee has been around for quite some time, but it wasnt until the 20th century that people started to drink it iced. There were two main reasons for this. Firstly, people didnt have enough electricity in their homes to keep ice boxes cold, so they had to keep them in the freezer. Secondly, ice was not used for cooling drinks in restaurants. Well, today, you get to learn how to make iced beverages instant in the comfort of your home.
An iced brew, also known as a cold brew, is a beverage made by brewing with ice cubes in cold water. The brew is served chilled, not watered down. The iced beverage is considered to be healthier than regular coffee because less milk or cream is required to make it.
They have been around for many years, but it wasnt until the dawn of the 20th century when iced coffee was perfected with the invention of the French press. After World War II, the combination of cold water and hot coffee began to gain popularity in the United States, when coffeehouses began serving iced coffee. They are made when the hot water is mixed with cold milk, allowing the coffee to cool and become less acidic, giving it a more mellow taste.
The General Method Of Brewing Iced Coffee
Usually, for every one cup of water, you should ideally add at least 1 ounce of coarse ground coffee to make cold brew or iced coffee at home. You must know that the steeping time for the coffee grounds may go up to 24 hours when you make cold brew. Starbucks is known to steep its cold brew for 20 hours, which may be why the coffeeflavor is so well concentrated.
Brewing it for longer will make the taste stronger and more bitter, but you can just dilute the cold brew with some more water if the iced coffee is too bitter for you.
Straining the cold brew coffee will need more than just a sieve or a French press. Here, you can filter the coffee using different tools like cheesecloth, coffee filters, or even handkerchiefs. Using a sieve or French Press will leave behind some coffee grounds in the cold brew!

Ingredients for making Instant Iced Coffee:
- Instant Coffee: You may use any favorite brand of coffee. Nescafe instant coffee powder is amazing! Lately, I am loving Davidoff coffee and I have used it for this recipe. The smooth plain coffee granule is perfect! You may experiment with flavored coffee too. But Id suggest not to get too excited with flavored coffee, maybe vanilla or chocolate flavored one might be okay.
- Sugar: I have used regular granulated sugar. You may use powdered sugar, brown sugar, or any sweetener of your choice.
- Warm Water: You need two to three tablespoons of warm water so as to mix the coffee and sugar well. I have noticed that using warm water will help in dissolving the sugar properly, especially if you are using granulated sugar.
- Chilled Water: Well, this is Iced coffee. So you need cold water.
- Milk: I used chilled milk for this recipe. You may use it straight out of the packet or boil and chill to be used later for the recipe. You may use full fat, or half and half milk. For a vegan version, use almond milk or soy milk.
- Ice: I add at least 4-5 ice cubes per 200 ml of iced coffee. Be careful about the number of ice cubes you add. It may water down the drink and become bland once the ice melts.

Why Is It Called Dalgona Coffee
Dalgona coffee gets its name from dalgona, a spongy South Korean coffee candy. I actually got to try some when I was in South Korea this past December. It is similar to the type of honeycomb found in American Butterfinger or British Cadbury Crunchie candy bars. The candy has a bubbly texture and surface, appearing very similar to the pockmarked texture of dalgona coffee foam against the side of a glass.
Although I know this drink as dalgona coffee, Ive seen many tutorials that call it by other names. The most common variations include names that describe the coffees appearance: fluffy coffee, frothy coffee, and whipped coffee.
