How To Make Cold Foam

Homemade Irish Cream Coffee Creamer

There are two easy methods to making the cold cream at home. You can shake the milk and vanilla together in a sealed mason jar until thick and creamy, but the preferred method is to use a little handheld frother.

An electric frother will make your cold foam the thickest and closest to Starbucks. I use an aerolatte, which is budget-friendly.

Another tip for making the cold foam is to use 2% milk. While you can froth any milk, 2% seems to work the best.

Irish Cream Iced Coffee Mocktail

Irish Cream Iced Coffee Mocktail is slightly sweet and deliciously creamy. Cold black coffee is sweetened with brown sugar syrup, poured over ice, and topped with Irish Cream flavored whipped cream. This Irish coffee recipe is non-alcoholic, but several tipsy versions are listed in the variations of this recipe.

Do you miss Starbuck’s Irish Cream Cold Brew Coffee? I know I do! But this is not a copycat recipe of that famous drink. Instead, it more closely resembles a cold version of a true Irish Coffee, just without the alcohol.

What Is This Irish Cream Iced Coffee Mocktail

This Irish cream iced coffee mocktail is a fusion recipe between a true Irish Coffee and a Starbucks Irish Cream Cold Brew Coffee. It has the flavor of Irish Cream but contains no alcohol.

I created this recipe based on how I wanted my Irish coffee mocktail to taste. I didn’t want an exact copycat recipe and I wanted the coffee to be slightly sweet with butterscotch overtones and the cream to be sweet but not too sweet. Lastly, it needed to taste delicious cold or hot.

My version begins with a 10 to 12-ounce glass filled with ice. Next, I mix 2 tablespoons of brown sugar simple syrup with cold black coffee and pour it over the ice. Lastly, I spoon the Irish Cream on top of the coffee, where it will float for about 10 minutes. As the cream sits atop the coffee, it will begin to ooze down into the drink.

So, simply put, we have brown sugar simple syrup, dark brewed cold coffee, and a soft float of Irish Cream. Are you ready to make the best coffee drink ever?

Great! So,let’s cook!

What Coffee Should I Use

You can use any type of black coffee in this recipe as long as it is cooled down or cold. I have used drip-brewed, French press, instant espresso, and, of course, cold brew. Each of these methods of making coffee will give you a delicious result. Just be sure the coffee is cool before you add it to your glass of ice and brown sugar simple syrup.

Baileys And Coffee Recipe

How to Make Homemade Irish Coffee

One of the easiest coffee recipes to make is a straight-up Baileys and Coffee.

We love this recipe because the name says it all: take some coffee, add Baileys. Done.

You can adjust the ratio to suit your personal taste preferences, all the way up to half-and-half.

How To Drink Your Irish Coffee Properly

Now as you consume the Irish coffee, if you do it right, you will actually be drinking the coffee through the layer of cream which will stay intact on top.

Some people prefer to thicken up the cream by whipping just very lightly with a whisk.

In England you can buy what is known as double cream that is thicker than America’s heavy cream and is sufficient for an Irish coffee recipe without the need for whisking.

How To Make Classic Irish Coffee

This recipe for Irish coffee has been adapted from the one at the Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Ireland. According to legend, Chef Joe Sheridan worked at a restaurant in the Foynes airport when one planeload of passengers was forced to return to the terminal due to bad weather. Chef Sheridan was asked to make something warm for the stranded passengers, so he added some Irish whiskey to their coffee. When asked whether the tasty coffee was Brazilian, Chef Sheridan jokingly answered, “No, that was Irish coffee!”

  • Carefully pour lightly whipped cream over back of warmed spoon so that it floats on top of coffee. Do not stir sip coffee through the cream.
  • *Partially refined Demerara sugar is often used in Ireland, but turbinado or brown sugar works, too.

    Heres How You Make It

How to Make an Irish Coffee

    What youll need:

1 measure of Irish whiskey1 measure of strong black coffee2 teaspoons of sugar2 teaspoons of fresh whipped cream or double cream

    How to make it:

    1. Heat the glass2. Add the whiskey, sugar and hot coffee.3. Float the cream on top of the coffee by pouring into a spoon rested just on the surface of the coffee: letting the cream flow into the bowl of the spoon and overflow onto the coffee.4. Lift the spoon as the cream builds up, so a layer of cream builds up on top of the coffee.5. Dont try this without adding sugar to the coffee first this allows the cream to float.

Serve while taking care to consume the coffee through the cool cream. And dont stir.

    Voilà, the perfect Irish coffee!

Do You Stir An Irish Coffee

No youll add the cream and serve without stirring. The difference in temperature between the hot coffee and the cream is all part of the experience.

A few popular variations on Irish Coffee

    • Buena Vista Irish Coffee: Uses two sugar cubes and calls for the cream to be lightly whipped and poured over the back of a spoon.
    • Irish Cream Coffee: Calls for half Irish whiskey and half Baileys, and is topped with a Maraschino cherry.
    • Baileys Irish Coffee: Only uses Baileys instead of Irish whiskey. This version is sweeter and fuller-bodied than the traditional.

Preheat your mug, then fill with coffee.

    Making Lightly Whipped Cream

The only part that is a little tricky is getting the whipped cream just right. When I say lightly whipped cream I mean cream that is just thickened but not yet firm enough to form peaks. The ideas is to make a whipped cream that is soft enough to drink along with your beverage, instead of just floating on top, making it creamier with every sip.

Getting to this stage with homemade whipped cream is quicker and easier than making actual whipped cream. In fact, for the photos I whipped the cream by hand with a whisk in under five minutes. It took less time than assembling then cleaning my mixer. Looking for an easier way? Check out my friend Carolines post about making whipped cream with a milk frother. Just dont over whip it!

Why Is It Called Irish Coffee

The story of Irish coffee actually dates back to 1943. A chef at a flying boat terminal in Ireland invented the drink when he wanted a way to help warm up returning passengers from a failed flight across the Atlantic.

Flying boats were large precursors to modern airplanes. They took off and landed on water and could only fly at low altitudes because they were not pressurized. Because they could not fly above bad weather, if a storm occurred, they often had to turn back or risk crashing in the storm.

Irish coffee came about because the chef at the terminal thought that coffee wasnt enough to warm the passengers of a flight that got turned around. So he added whiskey and unwittingly created the Irish coffee cocktail now famous today.
