If you are trying to remove an old stain, create a dense paste of more baking soda and less water. Then place the paste over the stain, allowing it to function for a few minutes. After that wipe off the baking soda paste. If it is needed you can repeat the procedure until the stain vanishes.

Apparently there are some very nice countertop/granite cleaners out there that do a great jobbut $7.00 for a 12-ounce bottle? YOU can do better than that! 🙂

After researching several homemade options out thereI discovered they all had the same basic ingredientsjust in varying amounts. Some had a LOT of alcohol in themsome very little. I think the following recipe has a good balance of the ingredients, based on the information I read.

Homemade Granite Cleaner, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol , 3 drops of Dawn or other dish soap , Water, 5-10 drops essential oil .

Put the rubbing alcohol or vodka into a 16 oz spray bottle. Add the dish soap, essential oil and fill up the rest of the bottle with water.

Now give it a few shakes.THEN give it a try! It should give your countertops a nice, clean shine. Works on appliances too! All at a FRACTION of the price of the store-bought stuff.

Create A Peroxide And Ammonia Solution

  • To combat a coffee stain on granite or any other natural stone, you’ll need to mix a solution of hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. The hydrogen peroxide should be your main ingredient, with just a few drops of ammonia added for extra power. Natural stone will etch when cleaned with acids or abrasives, but the naturally occurring chemicals in peroxide and ammonia can safely remove tough stains.

  • Cleaning Stains From Your Granite Counter

Mix the poultice, for example, hydrogen peroxide with talc powder to form a thick paste. Application of this paste should be only to the stained area and the layer should be one-fourth of an inch thick overlapping the stain by half an inch. You should then wrap this area with plastic wrap then allow it to set for 24 hours. The edges of the wrap should be tapped down.

Remove the wrap leaving the poultice to completely dry then scrape it away with a plastic scraper. The remaining paste should then be cleaned using a clean cloth. Finally, clean the area using a normal cleaning method. The stain may persist requiring you to repeat the process several times.

Using the above knowledge, there is no cause for alarm when you find out that your granite is stained. After carrying out the above procedure several times and still realize that your stain is not completely gone, it is advisable to seek professional help. Experts will save you a lot of time and still do a much better job. If this is not an option for you, you could opt to lighten or darken the granite to hide the stain.
