Nespresso Vertuo Next Review: 5 Things To Know

Nespresso Barista Masterclass – Your Vertuo Machine Coffee | UK & Ireland

A powerful coffee machine that’s top of the Nespresso crop.

If you are after a Nespresso machine but are wanting something that goes beyond a double espresso, then the Nespresso Vertuo range is for you.

This range is all about the cup size. The Nespresso Vertuo series was all about offering four different cup sizes, but then the Nespresso Vertuo Next came along and upped this to a whopping five.

We have spent a month with the Nespresso Vertuo Next. As you can imagine, the majority of this time has been spent at home, so the machine has been in near constant use.

Here are five things to know about the Nespresso Vertuo Next – a machine that’s almost certainly going to the top of both our best pod coffee machine and best Nespresso machine guides.

1. Plus points

The Nespresso Vertuo Next is rather like an upgraded Vertuo Plus machine. The design has been given a makeover that is much more environmentally friendly. According to Nespresso, the new machine is made from 54% recycled plastic and the packaging it comes in is 100% recycled cardboard.

This makes it the Nespresso machine with the highest rate of recycled plastic, which is a nice touch. While Nespresso’s capsules can’t be thrown immediately in your recycling box, Nespresso does offer a free service for this.

2. You have a choice

3. Nespresso hits the big time

4. It makes great coffee, quickly

Straight To The Point

While we wouldnt buy a Nespresso, if youre looking for a convenient, simple brewing system, youll probably be happy with it. Of course, there are environmental and ethical issues to consider when purchasing a Nespresso, which you can read about below. We also recommend checking out our review of espresso machines. All of our winners make fantastic coffee and are worth investing in.

The coffee pod revolution might seem like a recent phenomenon: in 2005, a mere 1% of US homes had a single-cup coffee machine by 2020, four out of every 10 homes had a single-cup brewermost of them pod brewers, those easy-to-use coffee machines that seem to work like magic: insert a small, sealed cup of ground coffee, fill the tank with water, and press a button. And just like that, coffee appears.

But Nespresso has been at the pod coffee brewing game for a long timesince 1976, to be precise. And even with the proliferation of other competitors, they continue to be the leader in this market. The word Nespresso feels like its becoming synonymous with single-cup pod brewers, much as brands products from like Band-Aid and Kleenex have entered the generic lexicon.

However, just because something has been around for a whileand has become ubiquitous within the at-home coffee brewing marketdoesn’t mean its good. So we decided to test one of Nespressos most popular models, the Vertuo Plus Deluxe, and see if its worth your hard-earned money.

Can You Get Hot Chocolate Pods For Nespresso Vertuo

  • You can use third-party hot chocolate pods with OriginalLine machines.

  • The pod slots on the OriginalLine machines are located on the front of the machine.

  • You can find hot chocolate pods for OriginalLine machines at most retail stores.

  • The VertuoLine machines have a different pod slot design, so you wont be able to use third-party pods with them.

Can Nespresso Machine Make Cold Drinks

Is that true? When you use your Nespresso machine, you can actually make cold drinks. The milk frother button must be pressed for about 3 seconds before the milk begins to whisk blue, but the milk will not heat. You can buy a cold drink in advance of time.

In order to make the perfect cup of coffee, a Nespresso machine is designed to precisely heat the contents of the pod to the appropriate temperature. These temperatures are sometimes thought to be cold when compared to those associated with scalding hot drips or pluger coffee. If you want a perfectly cold cup of coffee, pour it over a glass of ice. You may need to experiment with a few different techniques to find one that works well for you if you enjoy iced coffee. Each method yields a different type of coffee, which some people may or may not enjoy. In this article, well go over three ways to make cold iced Nespresso.

The Nespresso milk frother is a small, yet useful device that will be useful to those who enjoy frothing milk for iced coffee. You can activate the frother by pressing the button and waiting for the blue light to appear, indicating that the device is operational. Then, place your Gourmesso coffee capsule in the espresso maker and begin to brew it. Pour the milk and iced coffee into the frother and froth it up. You can also top your drink off with cinnamon, nutmeg, or chocolate shavings.

How To Make Vertuo Iced Coffee

    Nespresso Essenza C100 Espresso Maker

With a Vertuo machine, you generally get a longer cup of coffee. The dispensed amount can be found on the side of the box and on the underside of the capsule. I recommend going for a glass thats roughly twice the size of the drink you want, giving room for the liquid and the ice.

Making iced coffee with the Tropical Coconut Flavour over Ice, I started with a 500ml glass. Roughly fill it with ice youre looking at around six regular-sized ice cubes . Adjust ice and cup size depending on the size of your cup if you use Vertuo espresso capsules, then check out my advice for making coffee with an original Nespresso machine below.

Next, put the glass under your Vertuo machine , and insert your chosen capsule into the machine. Tap the button and let the coffee brew as normal, over the ice. Given that theres a lot of ice in the cup, the hot coffee brews as normal but will cool instantly.

Once the coffee has brewed, youre ready to drink it. You may want to leave it a few minutes to fully cool. Generally, as the ice floats to the top, you get a warmer section at the bottom of the glass that can take a while to cool.

    How Nespresso Machines Work

Every coffee machine needs water and coffee. But these two components are used differently in different coffee-making processes. For example, theres immersion brewing, where ground coffee is soaked in water in a French Press.

There are pour-overs where the water is poured over the coffee grounds and then drips through them. And, of course, theres espresso, where hot water is forced through a tightly packed bed of coffee grounds at high pressure.

Nespresso machines work differently. Most importantly, they use a pod system and pressure or centrifugal technology to extract coffee from Nespresso pods.

Each Nespresso machine has a water tank that you fill with cold water. A heating element inside the device warms the water before its pushed through the coffee pod at high pressure.

However, the extraction method differs in two kinds of Nespresso machines.

Best Nespresso Coffee Pods To Use

This is the most important part of this iced coffee recipe. You will need to choose your favorite coffee pods of Nespresso to use. But what if you dont have any experience with Nespresso pods? This is where I come in.

Because of the amount of milk used in this recipe, you want to pick a Nespresso pod with a good amount of flavor in it.

The coffee pods that I recommend for this iced coffee recipe are the coffees that have been dark roasted.

These coffee pods start from level 9 of the intensity scale of Nespresso. Choose an espresso variant for this recipe to really give that amazing iced coffee feeling.

If youd like to use a Lungo pod instead of an espresso coffee pod, please feel free to do so. But be careful with the amount of milk youre going to add.

The Lungo pods will produce more coffee than the espresso pods, and you might want to add less milk to balance it out.

Also, make sure the Lungo coffee pods are strong in flavor. You need to balance the flavors between the milk and the coffee a bit.

The Great Coffee Debate: Is Nespresso Really Just Black Coffee

    Nespresso Vertuo Plus Coffee Preparation

Some people believe that Nespresso pods are only used for black coffee, whereas others believe that they are a completely different type of coffee. Our capsules are specifically crafted to contain ground coffee from coffees all over the world. Our coffees are only made with the highest-quality coffee beans from all over the world, and each blend provides a distinct flavor experience. The final step is to select your coffee. You can make black coffee with a Nespresso machine or use your own coffee in a Nespresso machine both machines have refillable capsules. The difference between Nespresso and espresso, in my opinion, is that Nespresso is slightly different, but still similar. Instead of trying to find a drink like an espresso, look for something else. If youre looking for an excellent cup of black coffee, invest in Nespresso pods.

How To Use The Caffenu Cleaning Capsule In Your Nespresso Machine

You simply insert the Cleaning Capsule the same way you would a coffee capsule and run your machine . Once the machine has stopped, allow the remaining cleaning agent to filter through the essential components for at least a minute, then run your machine again to flush out the rest. Eject the capsule, close your lever, and run your machine with just water at least twice to flush out any remaining cleaning residue. Carry this process out after every 30 cups of coffee, or at least once a month. Please note that using a cleaning capsule is an entirely different process to descaling your machine, and we explain the difference between cleaning and descaling further below.

    Upgrade Pick: Nespresso Essenza Plus

*At the time of publishing, the price was $210.

If you want a Nespresso machine that can make a wider variety of espresso drinks, we recommend the Nespresso Essenza Plus. This slightly larger machine can brew espressos, lungos, and ristrettoseverything the Essenza Mini canbut it can also brew two sizes of Americano by adding hot water to your espresso, so its an excellent option for households that enjoy different coffee drinks or for people who may want something more similar to regular coffee. The Essenza Plus also boasts a larger water tank and used-capsule tray than our top pick offers, and thanks to its few extra inches of height, it can accommodate taller cups than the Essenza Mini can.

To brew an Americano with the Essenza Plus, you simultaneously press the hot water button and either the espresso or lungo button, depending on the size of Americano you want. The hot water button also works on its own, as the water comes out of a separate spigot. Though this hot water feature initially struck us as an exciting option to brew tea, we found that the Essenza Pluss hot water comes out, at its hottest, at around 160 °Fnot hot enough for most teas. And if youve just brewed coffee, in order to avoid a muddied cup of water you have to wait several minutes for the spigot to stop dripping its final brown droplets before you can brew the hot water.

Dolce Gusto Decaffeinated Iced Coffee Blend: A Great Choice For A More Intense Iced Coffee

Nespresso VertuoPlus: How To – Coffee Preparation

The Dolce Gusto Decaffeinated Iced Coffee Blend is an excellent choice if you prefer a bolder iced coffee. When youre looking for an iced coffee with more caffeine, the Arabica blend is a better choice than the Arabica Forte. Furthermore, as with the Arabica Forte, this blend contains more sugar, which adds a sweet taste to your drink.

    Pros Of The Nespresso

    Serious Eats / Ashely Rodriguez

If making coffee with a pourover setup or on a manual espresso machine is like making toast by baking bread from scratch, then using a Nespresso is like buying a loaf of pre-sliced bread and throwing a few pieces in the toaster theres absolutely no craft to the process: all you do is select your pod, pop in into the machine, and press go.

I write the above sentence with absolutely no disdain. Sometimes youve got all weekend to make a dough, simmer a sauce, and lovingly put together a homemade pizza. Other times, you want to throw something frozen in the oven and have dinner ready in 20 minutes. If your main objective is to simply get coffee delivered to you hot, quickly, and consistently, then the Nespresso is a pretty good investment.

First off, the Vertuo is fast. Like, scary fast. When I brewed one of the smaller podsthe ones meant for espresso-style drinksit took one-minute and three seconds for the coffee to brew. Thats wild considering that the water in the brewing tank is about room temperature, so the machine is able to get water to around 200°F absurdly fast. Coffees brewed with the larger pods didnt take much more time than that: every drink was done within two minutes of pressing the brew button.
