Perform The Coffee Enema
Thirdly, now that the enema coffee is cooled off and you have your area set up and ready to go, now it’s time to actually perform the coffee enema.
You’ll need to transfer the enema coffee into the enema bucket of your choice. I used to use the big red rubber enema bags but they were hard to clean and because I couldn’t see the inside of the bag, I never knew if it was completely clean or not.
When I decided to change, I considered a glass enema bucket and the stainless steel bucket. I decided to go with the stainless steel bucket because it’s sterile, easy to clean, doesn’t stain, and won’t break like the glass one.
Before you transfer the enema coffee into the enema bucket, make sure you close the tubing clamp. You will only need to forget to do this one time and you’ll never do it again. If the tubing clamp is not closed and you pour the enema coffee into the enema bucket, it will go straight through the tube and onto your floor – a big mess!
Put the sieve on top of the enema bucket and carefully pour the enema coffee in.
Take your enema bucket into the bathroom and hang it over the area you’ve set up – no higher than 18 inches for best results. I hang mine on a doorknob and it works fine. The higher you hang it the faster the flow will be. If you find that it’s not flowing through the tube, you may need to hang it a little higher.
Now you can set your timer for 15 minutes and just relax while retaining the enema coffee as long as possible, or the full 15 minutes.
What Is An Enema
An enema is the injecting of a liquid into the rectum via a tube for cleansing purposes or for stimulating the action of the bowels. It can be used for constipation especially when laxatives are not working. It is faster acting than a laxative. They are also used for clearing the bowels before some medical procedures such as a colonoscopy and before childbirth. For the purposes of gallbladder, liver and constipation, coffee is the solution of choice.
Coffee Enema: What Youll Need
1. Get the right enema bag
To begin with, youre going to need to pick up an enema kit. Remember, you arent douching here as an immediate prep for bottoming.
Instead, cleansing your colon for the purposes of health and detoxification, which in turn leads to a better bottoming experience.
Ive tried different types of products over the years and by far, the best one Ive used is the silicone coffee enema bag from Mikacare. I like this one because its easy to use and great if you are sensitive to things like latex. I bought mine on .
2. Use specialized enema coffee
If you think you can just pick up can of Folgers and use that, think again. Thats because many coffee products on the market are loaded with chemicals, preservatives and fillers that you absolutely dont want in your colon.
Your best bet is to get something natural. I can personally share with you that one of the best products on the market is the coffee enema roast make by S.A. Wilson.
It has a higher amount of caffeine than most brands and is specifically designed for the purpose of detoxification and colon cleansing. If you get this one, be sure to store it in the freezer.
3. Get a nut-milk bag or coffee enema strainer
Because you are using organic coffee, its going to need straining before using in enema form. There are two ways you can do this:
1 Get a simple nut-milk bag. You can buy these at many specialty shops that specialize in coffee or tea. You can also get one online .
4. Grab a Mason Jar

What Should I Do After My Coffee Enema
Coffee enemas should always be done together with plenty of organic juicing.
Drinking fresh juices with coffee enemas will ensure your body maintains the proper electrolytes and minerals you need.
Cleansing and nutrition go together. You cant ignore either one.
Here are some of my favorite juices to make after a coffee enema:
Some other healthy options are organic coconut water or organic fresh watermelon.
Another nourishing recipe to make to help support the liver is Dr. Group’s Liver Cleanse Soup.
Difficulty Holding The Enema
Some people have difficulty holding the enema in the beginning. If you simply cant seem to retain the enema very long, try these tips:
- Be patient. Practice makes perfect.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of Epsom salts per two cups of coffee. The magnesium will help the colon to stop spasming so you can hold the enema longer.
- You can break the 15 minutes up into 5-minute segments until you can hold the entire 15 minutes.
- The water may be too hot or too cold. Be sure the water temperature is comfortable.
- It may help to place a small pillow or rolled up towel under your buttocks so the water flows downhill into your colon.
- Many find that adding a teaspoon of black strap molasses to the boiling coffee mysteriously aids in retaining the enema.

Supporting The Liver Through Coffee Enemas
The coffee enema is very stimulating to the liver and is the greatest aid in elimination of the livers toxic wastes.
The coffee enema, besides stimulating liver detoxification, also has beneficial effects in cleaning the colon. Coffee is an excellent solvent for encrusted waste accumulated along the walls of the colon. The caffeine also directly stimulates the peristaltic muscle to contract more powerfully and loosen such deposits, which are occasionally visible as hard, black material and “ropes” of mucus. Gradually, as the protein metabolism of the body improves, the muscle tone of the bowel becomes normal and thorough evacuation is possible without the aid of the enema.
Essentially, the coffee enemas help the liver perform a task for which it was not designed that of elimination in 1 or 2 years the accumulated wastes from many years of living in ignorance of the laws of nature.
It is most desirable to take the coffee enema early in the morning and it may be repeated again in early afternoon and/or evening, depending upon the toxic condition of the body. Enemas using coffee in the afternoon or evening may interfere with sound sleep. If enemas are needed at these times, many patients prefer to use only warm pure water omitting the coffee. But it is better to take coffee at these times also, and a weaker solution to permit sleep would be better than not using coffee at all.

Where Did The Idea Of Using A Coffee Enema Come From
A German-American doctor named Max Gerson is typically credited for the popularity of coffee enemas as part of his famed Gerson Therapy. Founded in the 1930s, Gerson Therapy uses alternative treatments, including coffee enemas, in an attempt to treat various diseases, including cancer. Theres evidence, however, that people were practicing some version of the enema as far back as ancient times.
While coffee enemas have fallen out of mainstream medical practices, people are still experimenting with them. In 2013, for example, ABC News reported that on a couple that claimed to be addicted to coffee enemas. And Gwyneth Paltrows website, Goop, recommended a $135 coffee enema as part of a detox guide for the new year.
Benefits Of A Coffee Enema
1. Increases Antioxidant Activity
Coffee enemas are believed to increase production of glutathione S-transferase above normal levels. As functional medicine practitioner and pharmacist Suzy Cohen points out, people pay good money for glutathione in supplement form, so having the ability to produce more on your own is pretty valuable!
What makes this enzyme so powerful is its ability to scavenge free radicals within the digestive tract that contribute to bodywide inflammation, poor gut health, liver disease and cellular damage. Once free radicals are neutralized, bile that is produced from the liver and gallbladder carries these substances out of the body through bowel movements.
2. Used to Fight Cancer
Max Gerson, M.D., author of A Cancer Therapy, which was published in 1958, has successfully used coffee enemas in thousands of cancer patients. Dr. Gerson made coffee enemas famous as a natural cancer treatment when he pioneered the use of a special anti-inflammatory diet combined with nutritional supplements and daily enemas for speeding up detoxification.
According to the National Cancer Institute, an organic vegetarian diet plus pancreatic enzymes and coffee enemas were the main features of the Gerson Therapy that intended to build up the immune system of cancer patients and restore electrolyte balance . Many of his patients were able to stop their pain medications, help restore liver function and facilitate tissue repair by performing multiple coffee enemas per day.

Who Should Consider Getting A Coffee Enema
There arent any official medical guidelines about who should get a coffee enema.
According to an article by alternative medicine physician Linda L. Isaacs, M.D., people are continually exposed to toxic chemicals and pollutants in food, air, and water. As a result, she believes that anyone may benefit from coffee enemas as a way to help stimulate the liver to rid the body of these waste materials and pollutants.

Enema Equipment And Insertion
Stainless steel enema buckets and silicone enema bags with silicone hosing are the least toxic set-ups to use and worth the extra money. They will minimize the leaching of toxins into the enema coffee. Latex and soft plastic enema bags are not recommended. Disposable plastic enema kits are not recommended for this reason and due to their environmental impact, except perhaps occasionally while traveling and pressed for time. Whatever material you use for a container, minimize the time the coffee sits in it to minimize leaching of toxins into the coffee.
Some enema bags come with a hose that is rounded off on the end with side holes that can be inserted into your colon. This serves as a nozzle. Other set-ups require that a nozzle or colon tube be installed on the end of the hose. Never insert the cut-off end of a hose into your colon.
The enema protocol described here is NOT a high enema, where you are trying to get fluids high into your colon, so you do not need the water pressure that comes from hanging the bag up high. You only want the coffee to settle in the sigmoid area of the lower colon where it will be absorbed into the blood circulating directly to your liver.

Is A Coffee Enema Good For You
ByPaul S Fitzgerald | Submitted On November 07, 2008
It is commonly known that coffee is a very strong stimulant. Thus, when one feels drowsy, he drinks a cup of coffee. It is one solution to jump start one’s systems when it the systems are at the point of resting. Moreover, caffeine is a natural pain killer. However, one negative side effect of this dependency on caffeine.
During the1920’s, German scientists discovered that a caffeine solution could open the bile ducts. They experimented on animals and found that caffeine promotes the production of bile in the liver of these animals.
However, it was Dr. Max Gerson, who used caffeine clinically as part of a general detoxification program for tuberculosis and cancer. He claimed that caffeine enters the hemorrhoidal, then to the portal vein, and eventually to the liver. Thus, he cautions that coffee enemas are not for the normal functioning of bowel but for the stimulation of the liver. And based on the belief on the caffeine could stimulate the liver and gall bladder to release bile, he theorized that coffee enema could help cure cancer patients. He eventually developed the Gerson Therapy program which includes vegan meals, fresh fruit and vegetable juices and snacks as well as iodine and potassium supplements and coffee enemas. In fact, in 1958, he published his methods and findings along with fifty cases of cured cancer patients in a book entitled, A Cancer Therapy: Results of 50 cases.
How Coffee Enemas Work
Coffee enemas are superior to plain water enemas, as they provide so many more benefits. The theobromine, theophylline, palmitic acid and caffeine in the coffee travel via the rich capillary bed of the rectum into the portal vein, which leads directly to the liver. These substances dilate blood vessels and open up the bile ducts allowing the liver to release bile, which contains toxins.
Doctors at the University of Minnesota showed that coffee administered rectally also stimulates an enzyme system in the liver, which increases glutathione, the master antioxidant in the body, by 600%-700% above normal activity levels. This antioxidant reacts with free radicals in the bloodstream and makes them inert. These neutralized substances become dissolved in the bile, are released through the bile flow from the liver and gallbladder, and are excreted through the intestinal tract.
While holding the coffee enema in the colon for 10-15 minutes, the bodys entire blood supply passes through the liver 4-5 times, carrying poisons picked up from the tissues. So the enema acts as a form of dialysis of the blood across the gut wall. Its an amazing way to assist the body to detox in our very toxic world.

What Does A Coffee Enema Do
Were surrounded by so many toxins on a daily basis that its key to support your body in detoxing. As I mention in my book, Eating Clean: The 21-Day Plan to Detox, Fight Inflammation, and Reset Your Body, there are numerous ways to detox. Infrared saunas and Epsom salt baths are two ways but coffee enemas have had the most profound impact on me, so thats what were focusing on today.
The benefits of a coffee enema will probably surprise you. Here are a few benefits:
- Detoxes your liver.
- Helps your body function better so you can heal and recover from any health issues.
- Releases migraines/headaches.
- Reduces the amount of toxins in your body, which are the cause of hundreds of health issues.
- Increases your MAIN DETOXIFIER, aka: Glutathione.
Why You Should Consider A Warm Coffee Enema
For years, I suffered from chronic constipation and found myself getting nowhere through traditional medicine. In fact, between the daily glasses of Metamucil and synthetic drugs prescribed by my doctor, I felt miserable.
The worst part was not being able to bottom. You see as a gay man, Ive always enjoyed doing this, particularly when Im involved in an intimate relationship.
Tired of having to abstain, I decided to my own research and take a holistic approach to regularity.

When youre bound up for too long, you run the risk of developing diverticulitis a condition where tiny pouches in the colons lining forms. Ive experienced this and can tell you its no fun.
One of the great things about coffee enemas is they help to flush out the colon while stopping diverticulitis from occurring in the first place.
Ive written this coffee enema guide for men and women for these reasons and many more. My hope is to create a go to source that you can turn to in an easy to follow format.

How Do Coffee Enemas Work Does It Really Work
According to the Gerson Institute, coffee enemas are a vital part of the detoxification process. They then go on to say, the purpose of the enemas is to remove toxins accumulated in the liver and to remove free radicals from the bloodstream. Through the hemorrhoidal vein and portal system, caffeine is delivered to the liver. By doing this, it is believed bile ducts are opened and toxin containing bile is able to be released from the liver. In addition, it is thought that the cafestol palmitate in coffee increases an enzyme named glutathione S-transferase activity, which stimulates bile excretion. GSH is also a major detoxification enzyme, having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and natural blood cleansing effects. Coffee also helps to relax smooth muscles and open up blood vessels, therefore helping to produce bowel movements.
When ingested, orally or directly through the colon, coffee behaves as a cathartic, causing the colon muscles to contract. These contractions help move stool along, making it easier to go to the restroom, and easing constipation. As you likely know, regular bowel movements are important for removing waste and toxins from the body.
How Do You Do A Coffee Enema
Lets just say that EVERY time I did a coffee enema when I was sick, I immediately felt relief ALL over my body, especially my crazy migraine that immediately dissipated. I felt ALIVE for the first time in over a decade because all my toxins were literally flushed out of me.
The MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT COFFEE ENEMAS IS THAT YOUR COFFEE MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST BE ORGANIC. REPEAT AFTER ME. DO NOT USE CONVENTIONAL COFFEE- IT IS SO TOXIC AND FILLED WITH A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF TOXINS AND PESTICIDES. PLEASE ONLY USE ORGANIC COFFEE AND FILTERED WATER. DO NOT USE TAP WATER BECAUSE THAT IS FULL OF TOXINS AND FLUORIDE, AS WELL- WHICH WILL NOT BE PRETTY IF YOU USE THEM!
