Which Milk To Use

All the articles I read online highly recommended to get the drink with Oatly a popular oat milk brand. Thats exactly what I did when I went to Starbucks convenient since Im lactose intolerant and it just tasted like regular ol burnt espresso to me.

I do agree with using oat milk for this particular drink. At home I tried it with my lactose free milk, as well as oat milk and almond milk. Overall, I preferred oat milk and Im not usually the biggest fan of oat milk.

Pull Your Espresso Shots

Starbucks Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso Copycat

The first step is to pull a double espresso on your espresso machine.

This equate to around 2 ounces / 60ml of espresso.

If you have a manual or semi-automatic espresso machine, use your large / double brew basket in the portafilter to extract a double shot in a single go.

When using an automatic espresso machine be sure to select 2 x espresso or double espresso.

Tip: If you dont have an espresso machine, the next best thing to use is a stove top moka pot.

The moka pot makes a strong, espresso like coffee at a fraction of the cost of an espresso maachine.

My favorite moka pot brand is Bialetti. You can see it here.

Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso Ingredients

You need just 3 simple ingredients to make your own shaken espresso Starbucks-style. Heres what youll need to gather:

  • Light Roast Espresso Light roast coffee beans actually have more caffeine than dark roast, which is a bonus for a coffee freak like me. This is also the type of espresso Starbucks uses for their shaken espresso drinks, so youll end up with a more authentic drink.
  • Chocolate Malted Milk Powder – Feel free to make your own, or grab a container of Ovaltine, Carnation Chocolate Malted Milk Powder, or any other brand that you fancy.
  • Almond Milk – I suggest using an unsweetened vanilla-flavored version for the best flavor and lowest amount of added sugar, but feel free to use any type or flavor that you like!
  • Ice – Okay, technically this is the 4th ingredient, but its just frozen water! For the best flavor, use filtered water to make your ice.

Ways To Customize A Iced Chocolate Almond Milk Shaken Espresso At Starbucks

There are a lot of ways you can customize the Iced Chocolate Almond Milk Shaken Espresso. The original drink is made up of 3 shots of espresso, chocolate malt powder, almond milk, and ice. Aside from the size of the drink, you could reduce or increase the number of espresso shots per serving. You can also switch the blond espresso to partially or fully decaf espresso. As for the Almond milk, you can switch to any other milk or creamer option available. You can also reduce or increase the amount of chocolate malt powder or use a substitute. You can even add a scoop or more of vanilla powder if you want a different twist.

The drink doesnt come with any toppings or additional flavors but you have the option of adding them if you want something extra. You can either top it off with whipped cream or cold foam, although I would recommend the cold foam. On top of that, you can sprinkle some cinnamon powder or cinnamon dolce sprinkles. Alternatively, you could drizzle some caramel or mocha drizzle, depending on whether you want more sweetness or chocolate. There is also the option of adding to the flavor by choosing to add a pump or more of the available syrups or flavors from Brow sugar syrup to the mocha sauce.
