Our second favorite way to make iced coffee at home is with a French press. We like this method because French press coffee is bolder and more full-bodied than other methods, making it well-suited for iced coffee. French press iced coffee is naturally more flavorful and robust and, therefore, less prone to being weak and underwhelming.
How To Make A Hot Brew Iced Coffee
If youre struck with a need-it-now iced coffee emergency while your cold brew is steeping, dont worry. Simply speaking, all this method requires is a quick modification to your standard hot coffee recipe. Instead of brewing a full batch of hot coffee, youll just replace about half the amount of water youd normally use with the equivalent amount of iceeasily done in a drip coffee maker.
Follow our step-by-step instructions for how to make a hot brew over ice coffee at home :
1. Pour 25 ounces of water into your coffee-makers reservoir tank
2. Add one trays worth of ice to the bottom of your makers carafe.
3. Brew coffee as you normally would.
4. When its done brewing, you should have a nicely chilled carafe full of perfectly diluted iced coffee, ready to pour into a nice tall glass and sip immediately.
For an extra treat, add simple syrup to the ice cube trays before you put them into the freezer, or freeze cubes of cream to brew a kind of instant iced au lait. You can also use leftovers to make coffee ice cubes so your drink will stay cool and strong.
*Weight is more precise, so a grinder that weighs your coffee is absolutely ideal, but scoops are fine in a pinch. Each scoop is about 8 grams of coffee, so get out those calculators!
Considerations For Healthy Iced Coffee
Making an iced coffee beverage in the morning really only requires two things: coffee and ice. In fact, the cold brew recipe we gave you above can be mixed into a glass of ice and give you a great iced coffee in the morning with nothing else added.
That said, you might want some other flavors in your iced coffee, and thats fine. There are nearly infinite options available to you. You just need to follow a few guidelines if you want to keep it healthy.
As long as you can follow those guidelines, you should be able to make a great, healthy iced coffee beverage that wont ruin your diet or hurt your weight loss journey.

What Type Of Ice Is Best For Iced Coffee
I know this may not seem important but choosing the right ice for your iced coffee is key! Here are your options:
- Crushed ice this is what you see in this recipe. Because I had a ton of coffee to make I picked up a big bag of crushed ice and used it liberally. This is typically what I use for iced coffee
- Medium-sized ice cubes this is usually what people have on hand in their freezer and I say go for it!
- Large ice I like to use larger blocks of ice if Im going to enjoy my iced coffee outside. They are slower to melt this way!

Why The Flash Chilled Method Rocks
Flash chilling coffee is the quickest way to make iced coffee. Many coffee lovers would say its also the best way, but Ill leave it up to you to decide for yourself.
Normally, aromatic compounds that are unique to hot brewing are released by hot water and fly away. By brewing the coffee and allowing it to immediately drain over ice, you chill some of these aromas before they are able to fly away. This boosts the flavor and quality of your iced coffee dramatically.
The old way of making iced coffee had you wait for hot brewed coffee to cool before pouring it over ice. Compared to the flash chilled method, this way fails miserably. Heres why.

Cold Coffee Does It Work E And Cold Coffee For Iced Coffee
You can make hot brewed coffee, or iced coffee, at your local coffee shop. Just follow the same recipe for heating them up in the microwave or over ice, then serve them over ice or over ice, ed iced or piping hot, dealers choice. If I intend to warm my coffee for a hot beverage, I usually include some water so that the coffee is diluted before I warm it.
Simple Iced Coffee Ingredient Variations

How Does An Iced Pour Over Work
A pour over brew basket containing a filter and ground coffee sits above a carafe filled with ice. Hot water is poured over the ground coffee and brews as it passes through the coffee. The freshly brewed coffee exits the brew basket and over the ice in your carafe. The ice cools the coffee while also diluting the brewed coffee to a proper coffee to water ratio.
What About Iced Coffee
Technically, you can make iced coffee using your leftover coffee from the day before. However, it is generally recommended to make iced coffee fresh since leftover coffee will have a more mellow taste. In other words, the coffee simply wont taste as good.
You can use your leftover coffee by turning it into ice cubes, as described above. This method will not negatively affect the overall taste of the coffee. In fact, it should enhance it because your iced coffee wont be watered down as the regular ice cubes melt.
If you sincerely dont care about taste that much, then you can use leftover coffee to make iced coffee. For anyone who cares about the way their coffee tastes, we recommend making a new batch of fresh iced coffee instead.

If you’re in a rush, iced pour-over is 100% the way to go to get you out the door: It takes roughly three to four minutes to make this type of iced coffee, since you’re basically brewing a hot concentrate that drips directly onto ice.

Why Should You Cold Brew Your Coffee
This coffee-making method has a few things going for it:
- The slow infusion pulls all the great coffee flavor from the beans .
- But it also leaves behind most of the compounds that can make coffee taste bitter and sour.
- This means that cold brewed coffee is incredibly smooth and almost sweet-tasting. Perfect for iced coffee.
You can also adjust the concentration of your cold brew coffee, making it stronger or less strong to suit your taste. Start with one cup of beans steeped in four cups of water. This will make a fairly concentrated coffee on its own, but it’s perfect for pouring over ice or mixing with milk – or both. Now that its officially iced coffee season, are you keeping your cold brew in stock all the time? Nothing is more satisfying than a glass of iced coffee on a hot and humid day. Today, we want to share a quick iced coffee recipe using V60 pour over dripper. This recipe is perfect if you prefer a refreshing iced coffee with more bright notes. It takes roughly the same time as a regular pour over. So its also a great recipe for an emergency iced coffee brew.
To make a pourover on ice, youll need:
- coffee beans
STEP 1: GET THE WATER READY
We are using a total of 250g water, with the temperature between 205°F and 210°F.
STEP 2: SET UP V60
Insert filter and make sure it fits the dripper perfectly. Rinse filter with hot water. Discard rinse water.
Fill decanter or glass with 80g of ice. Anchor dripper securely on top of decanter or glass.
STEP 3: GRIND YOUR COFFEE
Measure 30g of coffee. We are using a medium-fine grind size for this recipe.
STEP 4: BLOOM
Gently pour 60g of water over the coffee ground. Make sure water saturates the coffee evenly. You can do so by swirling the dripper or by carefully dipping a spoon in the slurry to encourage water penetration.
Let coffee bloom for 45 seconds or up to 130. The bloom time in this recipe is significantly longer to compensate for a higher dilution rate over ice.
STEP 5: PULSE POUR
Without raising the slurry too high, pulse pour 190g of water until the end weight reads 250g.
Total brew time should fall between 215 to 300.

Avoid tart flavours by switching off a full-bodied coffee during your iced coffee session. While the exact origins of iced coffee may be controversial, one thing is clear: it is not the same as cold brew.
Cold brew coffee is brewed without any heat. Most often, the ground coffee beans are simply immersed in cold, filtered water for a long time until the water has extracted their flavors.
Iced coffee, on the other hand, is made with regular hot coffee that is cooled and poured over ice.
Many acids and soluble substances responsible for light and floral notes in coffee are only extracted at higher temperatures, so iced coffee tends to have a much brighter and more pronounced taste than cold brew coffee.
Making Iced Pour Over Coffee With The Javapresse Dripper

The Key To Great Japanese
The key to making great Japanese-style iced coffee is to get your ratios right. Because you’re brewing onto ice, which is going to melt and dilute your brew, you need to account for that in your measurements by brewing a double-strength batch of coffee and chilling it with just enough ice to achieve your desired final brew strength.
So, for example, in this recipe we make 16 fluid ounces of brewed iced coffee by brewing a double strength batch using one ounce of ground coffee and eight ounces of hot water. This is brewed directly onto an additional eight ounces of ice, which will melt to dilute the coffee properly.
The easiest way to do this is with a scale, though with a little tinkering you certainly could figure out a scoops-to-hot-water-to-number-of-ice-cubes recipe that works at your house. A scale, though, is by far the easiest way to do it, and so it’s how the recipe is written here.
1ounce medium-coarse ground coffee
8ounces near-boiling water

How To Make Iced Pour
1. Boil water between 195°F and 205°F.
2. For a Chemex, or other brewer with a paper filter, rinse the filter with hot water to remove any papery flavors.
3. Add 165 grams of ice and add the filter to your brewer along with 30 grams of coarsely ground coffee.
4. Slowly pour 60 grams of hot water evenly over the grounds to allow the coffee to bloom. Wait 45 seconds.
5. Pour another 150 grams of hot water of the grounds making sure to hit any dark spots to ensure proper extraction. Allow to drip for about a minute before adding another 105 grams of hot water.
6. Allow the water to fully drip through the filter. Remove the filter and grounds, and swirl the carafe to meld all the flavors together, then pour into an ice-filled glass to drink.
