How To Make Coffee Mate

Gourd & Bombilla Vs Coffee Maker Yerba Mate

How to Make Coffee mate using Powdered Milk / Homemade Creamer

By now youre probably wondering whether drinking yerba mate with a coffee maker is better than drinking yerba mate the traditional way with a gourd and bombilla.

Well they both have their pros and cons.

Although I always recommend people to stick with tradition, using a coffee maker for yerba mate has its purpose.

One being the convenience.

Most people who want to try yerba mate usually have a coffee maker already. This lets them save time and money by not having to buy a gourd and bombilla. But not only that, a coffee maker also lets you brew yerba mate in bulk.

With it, you can easily prepare 10+ cups of mate at a time to last you the entire day.

Whereas with a gourd and bombilla, its for one use only. When finished, youll have to clean up and wait for your gourd to dry in order to use it again. That is, unless you have a ceramic, silicone, glass, or steel gourd, you dont have to wait for them to dry.

Now it might seem like making yerba mate in a coffee maker is the better option.

But thats where people go wrong.

Drinking yerba mate from a gourd completely changes everything.

It takes time, attention, care, and patience. Its therapeutic. Relaxing. Meditative. And unlike anything youll come across.

Its a visceral experience youll only know when you try it.

Is Coffee Creamer And Milk Powder The Same

The simple answer is no.

As mentioned in the above definition sections, the milk powder is made in the dairy by drying liquid milk.

And coffee creamers are made from dairy free products.

It is actually a combination of vegetable oil, sugar and water.

Read more about the nutrition content of coffee creamers in this Healthline article.

These coffee creamers do contain large amount of sugar though which could be harmful for diabetic people.

So, coffee creamers with various flavours should also be used in moderation if you are health conscious.

And by looking at their manufacturing process, one can easily guess that coffee creamers and milk powders are not the same but are different products altogether.

Whats In Coffee Creamer

Here are the ingredients in what was my favorite brand :

  • Water
  • Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and/or Cottonseed Oil
  • Sodium Caseinate
  • Phosphate
  • Natural and Artificial Flavors
  • Carrageenan

Overall, not a very pretty picture. First off, there are waaaaay too many ingredients here for a very simple mixture . Second, there is partially hydrogenated oil which is very bad for you, along with a slew of very processed ingredients.

Now, here are the ingredients for my healthy homemade creamer recipe:

  • Almond milk
  • Raisins
  • Arrowroot starch
  • Pure vanilla extract

All whole ingredients, all waaaaay better for you. All just as tasty as the fake stuff youve been used to.

Step 6: If you are toasting hazelnuts, wait until you can smell the familiar aroma and the exterior starts browning. Cool the nuts until they reach room temperature, and fold them in a towel or tissue.

Step 6: Shake the nuts to remove the husk off of them. Take the mixture, sweetener, hazelnuts, and a tablespoon of vanilla extract, and blend together for around 20 seconds. Try to stop blending before the nuts completely churn for the ideal texture.

Boil water if you’re using an electric kettle then leave the boiling to the end.

Gather your supplies for the coffee while the water is boiling.

Add your coffee.

Add coffee mate, try taking heaped 3 tsps. This coffee is more milky than dark.

Stir stir stir until your coffee mixture looks something like this. . Little or no lumps of coffee mate should be left.

Pour your boiled water. Note: I didn’t add the sugar in the mixture. I will tell you why in the next slide.

Now add sugar =). If you add sugar in the beginning with the coffee mate your mixing will become difficult and it won’t dissolve the coffee well. Always best to add it in the end with the water.

Stir well and enjoy. If your coffee is still too dark or bitter add more evaporated milk and half a tsp sugar.

Thereof, is powdered coffee mate bad for you?

This can boost your risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. You should not consume more than 2 grams of trans fat in a day, and some brands of non-dairy creamer can contain 1 gram per tablespoon. Non-dairy creamer can go bad. Store powdered creamer in a cool, dry spot, sealed tightly.

Subsequently, question is, how do you make powdered coffee creamer with milk? Tip: Use Powdered Creamer As Emergency MilkJust put a cup of water in the microwave and heat the water up add the coffee creamer into it and use. I have used this in boxed mac and cheese, instant mashed potatoes and even scrambled eggs. It works great, my mac and cheese seems creamier than with milk.

Similarly, what is coffee mate made out of?

Coffee-Mate Original is mostly made up of three ingredients: corn syrup solids, hydrogenated vegetable oil, and sodium caseinate. Sodium caseinate, a form of casein, is a milk derivative however, this is a required ingredient in non-dairy creamers, which are considered non-dairy due to the lack of lactose.

Can I use milk powder in coffee?

Use non fat dry milk as coffee creamer. There is no need to pre-mix dry milk with water, just use it as is. You can use as much as you like, without the fat. Your coffee will taste just as good as coffee creamers that have questionable additives like high fructose corn syrup.

What You Need To Make Yerba Mate In A Coffee Maker

How to Make Yerba Mate Tea in a Coffee Maker!

To make yerba mate in a coffee maker, youll need two obvious things:

  • Yerba mate
  • And a coffee maker
  • Today Ill be using a brand Ive been drinking a lot of lately Playadito .

I chose this brand not only for its delicious sweet taste, but also for its high leaf/low dust content. Why? Because if theres a lot of dust, it can get through the filter. And I dont want any particles to get in the tea.

Ideally, you want a yerba mate thats sin palo or despalada as these contain 99% leaves. You can try using traditional blends if youd like, but they might not strain well.

Two good brands to use are Taragui Sin Palo and Guayaki San Mateo.

Next, youll need a coffee maker.

You dont need anything fancy. As long as it gets the job done.

The coffee maker I used is by BELLA. Of course, its always best if you can use higher-quality ones though like Cuisinart.

Now that you have everything you need, its time to brew your yerba mate in the coffee maker.

How Long Is Homemade Coffee Creamer Good For

Generally, it will last 7-10 days tightly sealed in your refrigerator.Youll also want to make note of the expiration date of your milk because that could affect it.

I found this on Mommy Savers.I had this great idea about adding that wee bottle of Baileys Irish Cream to the mix.

Yes, it is alcohol, but who says you cant start drinking at 7 am? Besides, its just a smidgen. But alas, Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard andthe cupboard was bare.

Darn it!I guess I already drank it and didnt even remember.

I had a small bottle of Godiva Chocolate liquor, but I wasnt in the mood for chocolate in my coffee.Yes, I know, GO FIGURE!

And WHY have I never thought about making our own creamer at home before??!!I guess its true that necessity IS the mother of invention.

This was SUPER easy, did the trick, and is less expensive than the fancy store-bought stuff. It will save you money and you know exactly the ingredients youre putting into it, none of those fancy words that you cant pronounce.

I may never buy creamer again. The full recipe is below.

This Healthy Homemade Coffee Creamer Is So Delicious That Youll Never Want To Go Back To The Store

Be sure to use raw cashews you can usually find them in the bulk section of your grocery store or online. Roasted or salted cashews will give you a pretty funky tasting milk. Look for organic if possible. Some chefs will tell you to only buy whole raw cashews as the pieces can be dry, but whole raw cashews can get really pricey so I usually buy the halves or pieces and havent noticed any differences.

Soak your cashews for at least two hours to soften them, I even prefer at least four hours. You can also soak them overnight up to 12 hours for an even easier recipe, just soak them before you go to bed and whip up your cashew milk in the morning. You can soak them at room temperature or in the refrigerator, if I soak longer than four hours I usually pop them into the fridge. You dont have to tightly cover the container, but I usually put something over it to keep the dust out if I have it on the counter.

Make as much as you need for the week on Sunday, it will keep in the refrigerator in a mason jar for about a week. Twelve ounces is just about right in my house for two people to have a splash each morning. Double the recipe if you need more. Just like store-bought stuff, it might separate a little which is no big deal, just shake it up before using.

    • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • small pinch of sea salt

Method: Drain your soaked cashews and discard the soaking liquid. Rinse well. Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender. Turn the blender to the lowest setting and turn on, then slowly work your way up to a higher setting. Blend until smooth, about 2 minutes.

Reasons To Make Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer

    COFFEE MATE

    1. Artificial flavors. There are new brands of flavored coffee creamer on the market now touting natural flavors, but my stance hasnt changed. The US Food & Drug Administrations labeling requirements to use the phrase natural flavors is still very broad.Honestly, my internal red flags go up when I buy any Pumpkin Creamer that has neither pumpkin nor spice listed as ingredients. Besides natural flavors, there are other ingredients you should be leery of too in your coffee creamer. Specifically, hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup.

    2. Hydrogenated oils. These oils are known as trans fat. For a while now the FDA has known trans fat is not healthy for the human body. It wasnt until 2015 when they also decided thatpartially hydrogenated oils are no longer generally recognized as safe either.Despite these rulings, some loopholes allow hydrogenated oils to be in your food, including your coffee creamer.

3.High fructose corn syrup. It is created in a factory using a 7-step process to convert corn into a sweetener. In the conversion process, strains of bacteria known to cause anthrax and food poisoning are added to the starch. In addition to this, pesticides are also used. The result is a 90% concentration of fructose.

    4. Unnecessary ingredients. You may find a coffee creamer that doesnt contain either of these on the ingredient list, but it probably contains one of these:

    • Corn syrup
    • Artificial flavor
    • Artificial color
