Nespresso vs Keurig: Which One Should You Choose?

We are taught by both the brands that their pods are recyclable but in reality, its not completely true. When we talk about Keurig, the K-cups are made up of plastic capped with an aluminum lid. The plastic is certainly not recyclable if it does not reach the correct center. These are small in size and so, are often get filtered out.

On the other hand, Nespresso pods are made up of recyclable aluminum. Though, it takes years but has less harmful effects than plastic ones. The brand also has a quality recyclable program that spreads awareness to the users and has a plethora of collection centers all over, so that every used capsule reaches its recycling center. They have a dedicated Recycling program that takes care of used capsules. The only care you have to take is to hand over the used ones for their program.

Keurig Vs Nespresso: Environmental Impact

One of the biggest concerns and reasons people choose to avoid single-serve machines is the extra waste they can produce, and their sustainability. Fortunately, both Keurig and Nespresso have been proactive and vocal about their environmental impact. Of course, the only way to solve the problem is to follow along.

KeurigAll of Keurig’s K-Cups are recyclable. The caveat is you will need to rip off the foil and dispose of the used grounds. It is indeed an extra step, that you, the consumer will need to take, should you choose to recycle. We’ve also come across brands like Cambio that have made it even easier to peel off the foil… all it needed was a little pull tab.

If you want to avoid K-Cups completely, but continue to use a Keurig, look into a reusable coffee pod filter that lets you use your favorite coffee grounds.

NespressoNespresso is extremely transparent regarding its ethos of stewardship to the earth as well as working with small farmers who offer fair working conditions and sustainable farming practices. Acknowledging the environmental impact of their business, they try to make recycling the aluminum capsules as easy as possible, with a bag that can be mailed back, for free. The coffee grounds inside each recycled capsule are composted into nutrient-rich topsoil. If you live in New York City, even better, you can recycle them as normal.

NESPRESSO KEURIG STARBUCKS VERISMO Coffee & Espresso Machines COMPARISON WHICH ONE IS BETTER????

The K575 is slightly cheaper than the CitiZ. And while the CitiZ is one of Nespressos mid-range products, this is one of Keurigs higher-end models.

The K575 has a 80 oz water tank , an LCD programming screen, as well as several size and strength options. However, this machine is bigger and heavier than the CitiZ, which may be an issue for users with less space.

You have the option of ordering a carafe in addition to this machine in order to make larger brews and take full advantage of the brewing capabilities of this machine.

One of the downsides of this machine is that it is primarily plastic, meaning it will have a shorter lifespan than a stainless steel product.

What’s Better About Nespresso

Nespresso coffee makers are sturdier than Keurig. It has two types of coffee machines the OriginalLine and VertuoLine.

The Nespresso Original coffee machine works the same way as your ordinary espresso machine. Water is forced through the capsule at 19 bars of pressure to brew a delightful shot of espresso.

The Nespresso Vertuo can brew large cups of coffee. So instead of one hole at the bottom, multiple holes are pierced into the side of the coffee pod and spun at very high speeds to extract coffee flavor.

The Coffee Pods Value And Variety

A Keurig machine comes with a large variety of k cup pods to choose from, while Nespresso offers a much smaller selection of coffee pods. If you are looking for more variety in your coffee or tea options, then the Keurig would be a better choice. However, if you are loyal to a certain flavor or brand of coffee and dont want to stray from your preferred taste, then the Nespresso coffee may be better suited for you to brew espresso.

Keurig k-cups are cheaper per pod than Nespresso pods. This means that over time, the Keurig will be more affordable to use than a Nespresso machine. The downside is that you wont get a more traditional espresso like coffee from a k-cup. Keurig also reusable Keurig pods that allow you to brew coffee with your favorite coffee brands.

Nespresso has two lines Nespresso machines availbale. The Original Nespresso and the Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker. Each line uses different pods. The Nespresso Vertuo uses a special pod that enables the machine to brew a more traditional espresso like coffee along with unique milk pods that rival your local coffee shop.

A History Of Pod Coffee

According to the history books, Eric Favre, a Swiss engineer working for Nestle, invented pod coffee makers because standard filter coffee took too long to brew and it frustrated him. Inspired by Italian baristas who controlled pressure for faster brewing times, he set out to create simpler machines capable of the same process.

Hoping that his innovation would fill a gap in the commercial market, Favre spent the next ten years developing what became the first Nespresso machine. Nestle pitched it to offices as an in-house instant espresso maker. The target market was disinterested and the initial pitch garnered no success.

Enter Jean-Paul Gaillard in 1988. Gaillard revamped Nespressos marketing to target homes instead of businesses and pushed Nespresso machines as a luxury household item one that dispensed top-notch espresso. Consumers took the bait.

In no time, Nespresso spread throughout Europe but struggled to break into the US market and many Americans favored filtered coffee.

Until Keurig entered the ring in the 1990s, pod coffee was a fad few Americans paid attention to. And Keurig failed to make as much of an impact as Nespresso due to the companys financial disadvantage. But even so, it was Nespressos first, and at the time only, competition, and it made waves. Small waves, but waves nonetheless.

To this day, these two manufacturers remain at the top of the pod coffee game, with Nespresso dominating and Keurig close behind.

Lets find out.

The Sustainable Choice Nespresso Vs Keurig

Nespresso vs Keurig

Both companies seem to care about the environment and make efforts towards it.

Keurig Vs Nespresso: Which Makes Better Coffee

We have to hand it to Nespresso on this one. Nespresso creates the feeling of a special moment every day, while Keurig has built its niche as a convenient coffee option fast. The thick, foamy layer of crema that Nespresso is renowned for creates a coffee drinking experience to remember, while a normal k-cup doesn’t seem to deliver that lasting excitement. Each capsule is designed to automatically deliver great coffee with minimal effort on your part, while with K-cups, you’ll want to play around with the best cup size for, as a 6 oz. serving will be a lot stronger as a 12 oz. one.

How To Use Nespresso

  • Fill the water reservoir and turn the machine On.
  • If the light is blinking, the machine is heating up, and it will take almost 15-30 seconds .
  • When the light becomes steady, insert your favorite capsule, either from Nespresso or off-brand.
  • Close the lever and place a cup of sufficient capacity.
  • Choose the option of espresso, lungo, or any other.

Is Keurig Or Nespresso Better

Nespresso VS Keurig Coffee Maker Which One Is Better? K-Cup VS Vertuoline Pods

There are two ways we can look at this.

Subjectively, considering everything weve covered, the brand that appeals to you the most is the best for you.

If youre more interested in the fun flavors K-Cups can offer, the colorful and compact designs Keurig pod coffee makers have, and the winning price range, go for Keurig.

If the authentic espresso, sophisticated technology, and sleek look and feel of Nespresso caught your attention, then invest. Keurig may not be as high-end as Nespresso, but its more accessible in almost every way. Nespresso may be more limited, but its quality is unmatched.

That said, in our Keurig vs. Nespresso comparison, Keurig took gold in affordability, pod mechanics, and variety.

Nespresso wins for design, brewing method, environmental impact, and flavor. Not to mention that its the original pod coffee machine, and to top it all off, dominates sales.

While youre at liberty to go with your gut and invest in a superb pod coffee machine no matter which brand you choose, Nespresso is the clear victor by a landslide.

Brewing Method: Nespresso Vs Keurig

Both, Nespresso and Keurig use pressure and high temperature for brewing. The piping hot water extracts all the complex flavors of the coffee. Nespresso has introduced the centrifusion method for extraction in its latest models.

In the Vertuo line Nespresso machines, a barcode scanning system automatically selects the brewing time and temperature for a particular pod. Here, I can say that Nespresso uses the latest technology to produce a better cup of coffee as compared to Keurig.

The heavy cream on the top of the cup just makes it way better. Keurig machine is fast but Nespresso produces a tasteful cup of Joe.

The Pod Squad.

Over the years, Ive been pretty clear when writing about coffee what I think about Keurig. Its a great brand for a quick cup of pod coffee that is not anywhere close to the quality of brewing with a pour over, drip machine or a Chemex. And while there are staunch defenders of the machine, to me it just makes a basic cup of coffee-flavored hot water.

Conversely, the Nespresso line of machines also uses pods, but there are some very important differences. The way the pods are popped in the machine, the type of coffee in the pods and the sensibility of staying true to the bean itself. Nespresso, being an espresso pod machine, strives to maintain the flavor profiles of the ground beans in its pods.

Its tough to simply compare a Keurig machine to a Nespresso machine. They have a similar purpose but different functions and use different ingredients. So the only way to compare the two is to pick the most popular offering of each and decide which one fits your lifestyle choices when it comes to coffee.

Keurig Is More Versatile Than Nespressoor Is It

The Battle Of Nespresso Vs. Keurig

People often say Nespresso vs Keurig is like Apple vs PC. With Nespresso, you can only drink the coffees that Nespresso provides, and the selection isnt vast. Its a little like choosing an Apple computer, which then dictates your choice of smartphone, tablet, streaming device, etc. Nespresso makes only four categories of capsules, in about two dozen flavours.

Nespresso machines do allow you some customization of your drinks with buttons that will add more or less water to the coffee. Many give you the opportunity to program the water volume to your preferences, and if you decide youve made a mistake then its fairly easy to reset a Nespresso machine to factory settings. Keurig partners with many other brands who are licenced to make K-Cups. These include the aforementioned Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, but also brands like Celestial Seasonings, Maxwell House, McCafé, and many more. So the Keurig coffee universe is much more expansive. It even goes beyond coffee. Pods are available to make tea, hot cocoa, fruit cider, and Campbells soup. If variety is the spice of your life, youll get more of it from Keurig.

Keurig also offers variety in their machines59 models at last count. Nespresso makes about six.

Keurig water reservoirs are generally larger than those on Nespresso machines. Nespressos are in the 24-40 ounce range, while Keurigs go all the way up to 80 ounces.
