How Much Caffeine Is In This Drink
With two shots of espresso, drinking an Iced Oatmilk Shaken Espresso provides plenty of caffeine to wake you up and keep you going.

Do I Need To Use The Oatly Brand
There are many oatmilk brands out there, and while it is a matter of personal preference, I highly recommend the Oatly brand. Not only is it what Starbucks uses, but I think it tastes the best.
Some oatmilk products have a metallic taste to them, but Oatly is creamy and tastes like milk with a hint of oats. I think it is the perfect complement to the other flavors in this drink.
How To Make It
Brown Sugar Syrup
This syrup is super easy to make and keeps for a long time if stored correctly in the fridge. For making it:
- In a saucepan, add brown sugar, water, vanilla extract and cinnamon.
- Simmer the mixture, stirring so the brown sugar dissolves completely.
- Take off the heat. Store it in a jar with a lid after cooled, inside the fridge.
Use a dark brown sugar for this recipe, as it gives a stronger taste because of its higher amount of molasses.
You can also mix brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract directly into hot water. Microwave mixture for 30 seconds if brown sugar doesn’t completely dissolves.
I use vanilla extract to enhance the flavors, but if you dont have it, feel free to leave it out. Youll still get a delicious drink.

S To Make An Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
Not only is it easy to make this drink, but its fun, too. Here are the steps to make it.
Step 1: Scoop ice into shaker.
Did you know all Starbucks drinks are made with filtered water and filtered ice? I imagine thats why they always so taste fresh and crisp.
If you dont already have filtered water, I highly recommend getting a Brita filter pitcher. This way you can use it to make filtered ice in trays.
Step 2: Add brown sugar syrup.
If you dont have a bottle of brown sugar syrup youve got two options.
Starbucks Insider Tip Starbucks makes this coffee-forward drink with half the volume of syrup compared to other drinks. The recipe for a grande actually calls for 4 half-dose pumps of syrup, not 4 full-size pumps.
Step 3: Pour espresso shots over ice and shake in some cinnamon.
Pull fresh espresso shots and pour them into the shaker over the ice. Then, sprinkle on some ground cinnamon powder.
You can also use very strong coffee if you dont have an espresso machine.
Another option is to buy a cold bottle of Starbucks blonde roast iced coffee from your grocery store. Its a 64-ounce bottle.
Step 4: Shake the iced espresso, then pour into drinking cup.
- Pour in oat milk.

What’s In Starbucks Brown Sugar Oatmilk Espresso
Lindsay D. Mattison
Starbucks makes it super easy to make their drinks at home. For starters, you can access their complete ingredients list to see what they use for each drink. For the Starbucks Brown Sugar Oatmilk Espresso, you’ll find it’s made with ice, oat milk, brewed espresso, brown sugar syrup, and cinnamon.
Starbucks also created an at-home recipe on their Coffee at Home website. We tried it, and it tasted exactly like the original! You don’t have to make the brown sugar syrup to enjoy this drink, either, because the heat of the espresso will melt the sugar. Of course, you can absolutely whip up a simple syrup if you plan to make the drink on the regular. The syrup is also great if you’ll be using iced coffee instead of espresso. Simply combine equal parts brown sugar and water in a small pot. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and transfer the syrup to a small jar. It will keep for about a month in the refrigerator, but we doubt you won’t use it all within a few days.

Do I Need An Espresso Maker
While its definitely better to brew the coffee in an espresso maker, you can also brew it like regular coffee if you dont have an espresso maker at home. We just recently received a Galanz Retro Espresso Maker shown in the photos. Its a gorgeous red color, a super fun retro design and makes the perfect cup of espresso.

What Is Iced Shaken Espresso
Think of iced shaken espresso like shaking a cocktail, but with no alcohol.
In this case, the homemade brown sugar simple syrup is shaken with the shots of freshly brewed espresso first to allow the brown sugar to blend in properly as opposed to stirring it. It’s then shaken with ice to cool the coffee. As a bonus, it gets a little frothy at the top!
Starbucks says the benefit to shaking the espresso with the brown sugar “adds another dimension to the beverage”, “creates a rich texture on your palate by just adding air”, and “mellows” it.
You don’t need a cocktail shaker for this! You can use anything with a lid on it like a mason jar.

What Is Starbucks Brown Sugar Syrup
Brown sugar syrup is one of Starbucks newest simple syrup flavors. This simple syrup is used in the ever-popular Iced Oatmilk Shaken Espresso and many TikTok original drink creations. It would also be delicious mixed with sweet cream cold foam.
The ingredients listed on the bottle are a little vague: invert sugar, brown sugar, water, natural flavors, salt, and preservations. However, when you taste this delicious syrup, you’ll get hints of brown sugar, maple syrup, and cinnamon.
While brown sugar syrup is usually available at Starbucks, it can be expensive to purchase an entire bottle to use at home. This recipe is a copycat version – I swear you won’t be able to taste the difference – and you can make it at a fraction of the price.

Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso
A delicious dupe of the Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso recipe – this cold coffee with a sweet brown sugar syrup and tinge of cinnamon is not overly sweet but packs in a lot of flavor, caffeine, and comfort to boost your day.
I hate to say it… but I’m once again underwhelmed by yet another Starbucks drink. The Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso is a new addition to the Starbucks line up as an expansion into the non-dairy drink space. It’s made with Starbucks Blonde Espresso which is shaken with brown sugar syrup, cinnamon, and ice and then topped with oat milk.
To be honest, Starbucks coffee tastes like burnt espresso to me. I probably haven’t had Starbucks since October 2018. BUT TIK TOK MADE ME THINK IT WOULD BE WORTH TRYING!!
This drink works because the brown sugar with the cinnamon are warm and comforting, reminding me of fall flavors. But it’s so good iced when shaken with the espresso!

The Double Cinnamon Quandary
Yep, this recipe calls for two types of cinnamon: cassia and Saigon. Believe it or not, there are a few pretty big differences between the two spices.
First off, cassia is not authentic cinnamon. Yes, the most popular cinnamon in the US is imposter, but it tastes pretty much like the real thing, and many cooks actually prefer it to the real deal when cooking savory dishes.
Saigon cinnamon, on the other hand, is true cinnamon. It has a strong flavor and a bit of heat and is also much more expensive than cassia.
If you dont want to run to the store just to make this drink, use whichever cinnamon you have on hand, but you may need to play with the amounts a little.
