Can You Put Hot Coffee On Ice
Technically, you can simply pour hot coffee over ice. But I wouldn’t recommend it!
The ice will water down your coffee, and it won’t get as cool either … and perfect Iced Coffee needs to be quite cold.
If you’d prefer to make your drink with hot coffee, then I’d recommend using coffee ice cubes instead of regular ones … that way your coffee won’t be diluted and watery tasting. To make coffee ice cubes, simply fill an ice cube tray with leftover coffee, then freeze overnight.
In the morning, stir a few coffee ice cubes into your freshly-brewed coffee. The cubes will cool off your coffee without watering down the flavor like regular ice would. Once your coffee has cooled, stir in sugar and milk to taste, then top off with regular ice or more coffee ice cubes.

I will include the exact measurements that I use for my perfect iced coffee, or you can experiment to make it just right for you!

Making The Iced Vanilla Latte
Vanilla lattes are so easy to make and you dont need to splurge on an expensive vanilla bean to get good flavour with this syrup. Like the rest of the syrups here, the formula is pretty straightforward. Make a plain simple syrup by mixing boiling water and sugar together, then add in your flavouring of choice.
For this vanilla latte, I used plain old artificial vanilla extract but you could use the more expensive pure extract or opt for the vanilla bean if you can find them. But really, the vanilla latte is the easiest of all to make. Like the machiatto, start with an empty cup full of ice. Brew two espresso shots and pour them over the ice, then stir in 1 cup of milk and add vanilla syrup to your taste. Yum!

A Little Lesson On Lattes
Before we jump into the instructions on how to make an iced latte, lets learn a little bit about the drink itself. Having decent foundational knowledge will help you tinker with the recipe and make perfect lattes.
A latte is simply coffee and milk. Known as a cafe latte in Italy, where it was originally made, it directly translates to milk coffee. Big companies have shortened the name to simply latte. While most shops you go to will make a latte with espresso, the name suggests that you can use any type of coffee or coffee extraction. Lattes are also typically prepared with steamed milk for a couple of reasons: mouthfeel and flavor. The steamed milk adds a creamy texture to the drink when properly steamed. It also stretches the milk, releasing sugar enzymes and effectively sweetening the drink.
For an iced drink, we wont be steaming the milk because the iced latte has a feel all its own. It could also be a bit of a health risk, as theres a small risk that steamed milk could grow unhealthy bacteria when introduced to the ice.
Now that we know all this, we can see that the iced latte is a pretty simple drink. The most important part is the coffee itself, as everything else is added after the coffee is brewed. So, lets make an iced latte!

Is Iced Coffee Bad For You
Iced coffee can be bad for you if care is not taken. Iced coffee contains varying amounts of calories depending on the ingredients used in its preparation. Use low-fat milk and avoid the urge to add artificial sweeteners. Preferably, make iced coffee with coffee and iced cubes only to reduce the number of calories per cup.
The recommended average calorie consumption a day is 2,000 calories for women and 2,500 calories for men. Excess fat in the body is a predisposing factor for cancer and other high-risk diseases.
To be on the safer side, have your iced coffee with no artificial sweetener preferably with semi-skimmed or skimmed milk. Avoid sugary syrups and cream.

How Do You Make Iced Coffee?
It’s easy, really. All you need is a tall glass filled with ice, brewed coffee and some vanilla syrup . Mix it all up and there you have it! A decadent glass of homemade, no-fuss iced coffee.
Whats The Difference Between Iced Coffee And Cold Brew?
Iced coffee is, well, icedcoffee. It’s as simple as serving regularly brewed coffee over a glass full of ice. But if you want to get a little more technical, Lynsey says, Iced coffee is made with espresso thats brewed for around 25 seconds.
Cold brew is a little less straightforward and requires a lot more time. Rather than simply serving regularly brewed coffee over ice, cold brew involves leaving course ground coffee steeped in cold water for a minimum of 12 hours.
The longer the coffee sits, the stronger the flavour.
Lynsey describes cold brew, as a concentrate, that you dilute with whatever you want milk, water or tonic.

About This Cold Coffee
Icy cold coffee is simply the best beverage to enjoy on a hot summer day. Even though I tend to be more of a tea drinker, I do love a good cup of coffee occasionally and this cafe-style blended coffee drink is my favorite!
Similar to what you find at nearly every local coffee shop, this shake-like cold coffee recipe is made with sugar and milk blended together with ice. It creates a refreshing and rich beverage, with a delightfully frothy layer on top.
The taste is like a lighter Frappuccino or frappe but you can add flavored syrups to recreate nearly any blended iced coffee flavors.
I have used instant coffee powder to make this a quick and easy recipe. However, you can also make delicious cold coffee using traditionally brewed Filter Coffee or espresso. Prepare your drip coffee or espresso per usual, and allow it to cool before using to make icy blended coffee shakes.

How Long To Steep Cold Brew Coffee
Once your coffee and water are well mixed, let the mixture sit for 12-18 hours to allow the coffee to infuse into the water. The ideal time to steep your cold brew is between 14 and 18 hours. This will give you the best cold brew flavor without the bitterness that could come from steeping too long.
You can either steep your cold brew on your counter at room temperature or in your refrigerator.
Why Should You Cold Brew Your Coffee
This coffee-making method has a few things going for it:
- The slow infusion pulls all the great coffee flavor from the beans .
- But it also leaves behind most of the compounds that can make coffee taste bitter and sour.
- This means that cold brewed coffee is incredibly smooth and almost sweet-tasting. Perfect for iced coffee.
You can also adjust the concentration of your cold brew coffee, making it stronger or less strong to suit your taste. Start with one cup of beans steeped in four cups of water. This will make a fairly concentrated coffee on its own, but it’s perfect for pouring over ice or mixing with milk – or both. If that ratio of beans to water isn’t quite to your taste, adjust it up or down until you hit the perfect balance for you.
I also really love that this method for making coffee actually saves me time in the morning. I make a big batch over the weekend, starting it on Saturday or Sunday night and straining it the next morning, and then stash it in the fridge for an easy coffee fix all week long.
