How To Make Cold Foam For Coffee

What You Need To Make Starbucks Sweet Cream Cold Foam

How to make COFFEE COLD FOAM: Cold Foam for coffee like STARBUCKS at home (Cold Frothed Milk)

I’ve made this foam a few different ways, as there are different methods online. I used a blender at first because at Starbucks they use special blenders. I obviously don’t own a cold foam blender and had no intent on shelling out on a blender used only for foam. The Vitamix is pretty similar to blenders used at Starbucks, so if you have the cash to get authentic, go for it.

You can also just put the heavy whipping cream, syrup, and milk mixture into a glass mason jar and aggressively shake it. That was my least favorite attempt because I had to physically exert myself. My favorite method was using a handheld frother. It took 20 seconds and provided the same foam consistency that I get in my Starbucks drinks. If you’re really fancy, you can get a legit frother. My $18 handheld frother was more than enough, however.

French Press Cold Brew Recipe:

But, if you prefer cold brew, Ive got you covered!

Heres my homemade French press cold brew coffee recipe:

To make 1 serving of cold brew, place 1 ounce of coarsely ground coffee beans in a French press. If you dont own a coffee grinder, some grocery stores have a grinder and you can adjust the fineness of the grind.

Pour 1 cup of water thats either cold or room temperature on top.

Stir it well, put the lid on , and set aside for 10 to 20 hours.

You could stir this together the night before to have it ready for your iced coffee in the morning.

After the coffee has brewed for 10 to 2o hours, plunge the French press down.

Pour the coffee over some ice in a glass.

Note: feel free to double, triple, or quadruple this recipe to fit your needs.

So thats how to make your own cold brew coffee at home!

Just remember: 1 ounce of coffee to 1 cup or water for 10 to 20 hours.

How To Make Cold Foam Dairy

For this dairy-free version, you will need none other than canned full-fat coconut milk.

Just refrigerate it the night before.

The next morning, just shake the can to incorporate the creamy layer that has formed and the liquid.

Once youre ready, blend the coconut milk, sweetener of choice, any spice you like with your mixer or frother.

And voila, there you have a dairy-free cold foam! This is a tasty way to make cold foam for iced coffee.

The Perfect Cold Foam Cold Brew:

Once youve perfected the cold foam, all you need is some cold brew coffee and youre ready to rock n roll. Cold brew coffee is also deceptively easy. I wrote a whole post on how you can use drop in cold brew coffee packs to simplify it. Or, why not make life even easier and buy pre-made cold brew coffee?

Ill admit thats what we do more times than not. But, if youre a real coffee snob , just coarse grind your favorite beans and use a cold brew pitcher with grounds and water and let it sit overnight.

Voila. Cold brew.

Then, when the coffee mood strikes just fill a glass with ice and cold brew coffee. Then, you can pour in some of the milk or just dollop the cold foam right on top. We also use the vanilla simple syrup recipe above mixed in to the coffee and milk. If you want the full recipe we use, this iced vanilla latte is the best thing weve ever had.

Thats the good stuff, friends.

If you like to sweeten your coffee, try mixing up your simple syrup recipe a little. You can infuse things like lavenderor make a cinnamon simple syrup that will change your life. I am a huge, huge cinnamon fan so I love my cinnamon simple syrup.

Im serious. Try it.

I know it may seem silly to write about something like perfect cold foam, but I think Im not the only one really feeling like the little things are the big things right now.

But, if we have perfect cold foam cold brew coffee in one hand, maybe we can save the world with the other.

Whatever it takes.

What Does Chilly Foam Style Like

Whether or not or not youll like chilly foam is dependent upon how you are taking your espresso. As a result of its made with nonfat milk, chilly foam could be much less flavorful or creamy than what some are used to on their lattes if nonfat milk tastes watery to you, a flavored chilly foam topping from Starbucks or elsewhere could be a greater choice. Should you favor additional creamy espresso, this may not be the drink for you: Chilly foam tends to take a seat on the prime of the beverage and doesnt incorporate properly into the espresso. Its additionally not an choice for purchasers preferring different milks reminiscent of soy milk.

    How To Make Cold Foam

The basic method of making cold foam includes putting milk and a sweetener into whatever frothing device you choose.

Looking at the Starbucks ingredients lists, their Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew is made with a salted vanilla sweet cream, which includes the following: Cream , Milk, Vanilla Syrup , Salt.

According to Starbucks baristas, it appears that cold foam is made using a special blender and on something called setting 3. Im guessing most of us dont have this specific Starbucks blender at home, so well stick with a few alternative methods to create our own cold foam at home.

Making Cold Foam With A Jar

How to Make Cold Foam Cold Brew Coffee Zero Carbs – Keto – Low Carb

If you dont have any of the equipment as mentioned above, you can also make cold foam using a resealable jar. For example, you can use a mason jar for this technique.

You could even use a resealable storage jar like Im using. Or an empty jam jar that youve cleaned thoroughly. It doesnt have to be the prettiest to work.

Youll need the following equipment and ingredients to get started:

    • Resealable jar of choice
    • 1/2 cup of low-fat milk

The best part about using this jar is that you can easily scoop the foam from the jar and not having to transfer it from, say your blender, to a good cup to use it properly. To make the foam:

  • Pour the cold milk into your jar.
  • Close the lid.
  • Start shaking vigorously until a lot of foam starts to form. I found that this is around the minute mark.
  • Once fully fluffed, you can remove the lid from the jar and start using your freshly made foam!
  • This is the easiest way to make cold foam at home. And you can use it to make so many delicious coffee drinks, especially iced coffees. Its simply amazing.

    Note about cold brew coffee:

To make cold brew coffee, you need to plan in advance. Cold brew coffee requires steeping coarse coffee ground in water for at least 12 hours. I make mine with a Primula Cold Brew Coffee Maker, which is convenient and requires minimal clean up. Heres how to use it.

You also can put cold foam on top of iced coffee too. Cold foam doesnt have to exclusively be paired with cold brew coffee.

    Note about the liquid ratio:

Ive tested various combinations of milk, cream, coffee creamers and also non dairy barista blends. My preferred ratio has been 3 tablespoons of nonfat milk plus 1 tablespoon of heavy cream.

Using my milk frother, I find this combination allows for the milk to not sink right into the coffee after I pour. From time to time, I also enjoy making cold foam with ¼ cup of half and half, especially with the chocolate cold foam version, as it makes the cold foam creamier.

    Note about the sweetener:

Once youve found a liquid ratio that you like, you can also experiment with flavor combinations. Youll find below I made a vanilla, chocolate, caramel and hazelnut version all by adding in one teaspoon of the flavoring. My favorites have been Monin Coffee Syrups and Torani Chocolate Sauce.

    Note about the device/frother:

If you dont have an electric milk frother, you can use a blender or handheld milk frother and blend it to your desired consistency.

Is Sweet Cream And Cold Foam The Same

The cold foam that you see at Starbucks is nonfat milk that is put through a special machine and whipped/frothed at high speed. Its whipped cold and is not sweetened or flavored typically. Sweet cream is a blend of heavy cream, milk, and vanilla thats just poured into cold brew coffee for sweetness and creaminess. Its not frothedits like a coffee creamer essentially. Sweet Cream Cold Foam is the love child of sweet cream and cold foam. This is a combo of milk, cream, and sugar syrup that is frothed to create a sweet and velvety topping for iced beverages. This foam not only flavors and sweetens the coffee, but it gives you a creamy cloud with every sip. DELISH.

    Questions You May Have

What drinks can I add cold foam to?

Any iced drink where you would normally add milk or cream, you can add cold foam instead. Iced coffee, cold brew, or iced tea like chai.

Can I use a blender to make cold foam?

You can, but Its more work to clean than handheld milk frother and doesnt create tiny, uniform bubbles the way that a French press can.

Can I make cold foam without a frother or French press?

You can but itll take some work. Put half & half and sweetener into a large jar with a tight lid. Shake vigorously until it doubles in volume.

    The Milk Frothing Machine Method

How to Make Cold Foam (Upgrade Your Cold Brew Coffee!)

Lets start with the easiest method.

If you have a milk frothing machine at home, making your own cold foam is as easy as pressing a button.

The Nespresso Aeroccino is an example of the type of electric milk frother Im talking about.

Its as simple as following these steps:

  • Pour your cold milk into the frothing machine
  • Add any sweeteners, syrups and spices
  • Choose the cold foam setting
  • Run the machine
  • Thats it.

    Its literally that easy.

Note: If your milk frothing machine doesnt have a cold foam option, then unfortunately this method is off the table. In that case, youll have to use one of the methods below.

What kind of blueberries you will need depends on how tart or sweet you like your blueberry iced coffee.

Blueberries are naturally tart, so if you want a sweeter taste, make sure to buy fresh blueberries, as they tend to be a bit sweeter.

If you want blueberry flavor with a little tartness, then frozen blueberries are the way to go. They are usually cheaper and keep well for long in the freezer.

How To Make A Homemade Salted Cream Cold Foam Cold Brew:

my salted cream cold brew is seriously so easy & cost-effective to make at home.

    heres what you need:

    • cold brew coffee.
    • milk. preferably skim for optimal froth-age.
    • salt.
    • optional: a milk frother.

4 ingredients, 1 optional gadget, & less than 5 minutes of prep timethats it!

first! brew your cold brew. my ultimate lazy girl cold brew hack is making a batch of cold brew in a french press. you add one cup of fresh coarsely ground coffee to a french press, then you fill it on up with water . let it sit overnight, then the next morning youve got yourself perfect cold brew that took about 2 minutes of active prep time to make.

next! the salted cream cold foam. pop some skim milk in a milk frother, with a little bit of salt & a little drizzle of maple for optimal salty-sweetness. i could seriously eat this stuff with my hands it is SO freakin good!

i tested this recipe countless times with heavy cream & half & half, & while they were reallly good, they didnt froth up the same way starbucks salted cream cold foam does. skim milk is the secret for a great, stiff cold foam.

if you dont have a milk frother, you can replicate the foaminess by adding the milk to a jar & shaking it vigorously for a minute or two. itll be a little softer than by using a frother, but just as tasty. if youre in the market for a milk frother, this is the one i useits my favorite!

    make, sip, repeat.
